PRINCETON, NJ, June 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) Specializing in data management, biostatistics, programming and medical writing, the Quartesian business model combines domestic and offshore staff with minimum overhead and maximum efficiency within a framework of validated computer systems, regulatory compliance and industry best practices. This model provides distinct advantages such as speed, efficiency and cost containment to pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and for CROs and clinical sites that lack in-house data service capabilities.
Formed in 2003 as a biostatistics and statistical programming company, Quartesian was founded on three core principles: Excellence, Integrity and Value. Remaining true to these principles has enabled the company to expand both in size and scope to support the needs of its expanding client list. Quartesian prides itself on its flexibility, responsiveness, adherence to client specifications and timelines for all projects conducted anywhere in the world. More than 70 pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies have contracted for Quartesian's services since the firm first opened its doors.
"Our mission then, and our mission today, is to provide unsurpassed quality and value for clinical services to our customers by taking the fullest advantage of the current global and technological landscape," explains Benjamin Jackson PhD, Quartesian's Co-founder, President and CEO. The company's wide geographic presence, high quality standards, cost effectiveness, faster turnaround time, as well as experienced and talented employees, greatly enhance the benefits and advantages that every Quartesian client enjoys.
ESTABLISHING A GLOBAL FOOTPRINT
Quartesian embarked on an international quest to provide best-in-class clinical development services in 2003 by opening an office in Kharkov, Ukraine. Shortly thereafter, in 2004, the company established an even broader geographic footprint by adding another office, Quartesian Clinical Research Pvt. Ltd in Bangalore, India that is a wholly owned subsidiary. Each of these strategic additions was made to take advantage of the local pools of highly skilled employees in the respective geographic locations, significantly adding to Quartesians value proposition. This global configuration is an outcome of finding the optimal combination of premium talent at the most competitive prices - Project Management from the U.S. and Ukraine, Biostatistics in Kharkov, Ukraine, and a Data Hub in Bangalore, India - all seamlessly linked by a highly efficient IT and communications infrastructure.
In its third year, Quartesian entered a new market for its services through an alliance with a Phase I site and began providing services tailored for early phase clinical studies (including Phase II) for healthy volunteer and patient populations for metabolism, renal, respiratory, dermatology and men's and women's health studies. During that same year the Ukraine office continued its expansion. Relationships with local universities further enabled Quartesian to recruit and train top graduates in technical fields to work in statistical, pharmacokinetic/pharmacokinetic programming and eClinical technologies.
In 2007, statistical programming and analysis was extended into niche areas that include simulations and the gatekeeping procedure for multiplicity adjustment with the Kharkov, Ukraine office providing these unique offerings to major global pharmaceutical companies.
Soumitra Choudhury, the company's Co-Founder and COO states, "Our talented and experienced global workforce understands clinical end points and maintains standards of excellence and integrity that deliver on-time and on-spec results with outstanding value for our clients. This level of satisfaction not only results in repeat business but also in the recommendation of new clients."
EXPANSION ACCOMMODATES A NEW PHASE OF GROWTH
Quartesian's scope of services and client base was further expanded in 2009 when an agreement was entered into with a global leader in drug supply and IXRS for Quartesian to generate randomizations for import into their packaging, labeling and interactive systems.
In 2010, the Bangalore, India office underwent a major expansion as the booking of Phase III studies increased substantially. New offices were leased as the workforce doubled in size while workplace upgrades included an uninterrupted power source and improved internet connectivity.
The large volume of work also necessitated IT infrastructure enhancements with additional servers brought on-line at Quartesian's IT centers in the United States. Operating policies were also re-evaluated and updated to insure maximum security and correct usage of IT technologies across the entire company. Finally, patient recruiting was added to the company's scope of services through a joint venture company, Quartesian Patient Recruiting.
Quartesian extended its model for delivery of "back-end" data related services to Phase I sites in 2011 through an alliance with a Phase I site in Bangalore India. This partnership was particularly noteworthy because it marked the first time that a study was done entirely in India for an Indian sponsor.
QUARTESIAN: THE NEXT 10 YEARS
Quartesian continues to work with drug innovators and generic companies alike, accurately anticipating market dynamics. Both types of organizations generally require large-scale studies conducted in a short amount of time, an area in which Quartesian has extensive expertise and resources. The company's experience in early phase studies also applies to many study designs for generic studies. Quartesian has entered into this sector by providing data services to one of the world's largest generics companies.
"In the future Quartesian will remain fully committed to pursuing new technologies and industry innovations," assures Benjamin Jackson. "We are currently evaluating many emerging life science trends, especially in technical areas. These include cloud computing and areas of new business opportunity such as data analytics for feasibility studies and patient recruiting. All of these efforts are being undertaken to best serve our clients' needs and to preserve and uphold our core values of excellence, integrity and value."
