Global Food Technologies: Capitalizes On Aquaculture Opportunity

The aquaculture industry is expected to grow by 33 percent within the next nine years. Global Food Technologies looks forward to this expansion, but understands that increased production will result in more foodborne illness complications.

2012-08-07
NEW YORK, NY, August 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has forecasted a growth in global seafood production of 15 percent between 2009 and 2021, according to SeafoodSource.com. This surge is expected to hinge on the expansion of the aquaculture industry, which is anticipated to grow by 33 percent by 2021. Global Food Technologies (GFT) looks forward to such success within the industry, but the company is well aware of the fact that an increase in production can result in a surge in the potential for foodborne illness. As such, the organization is offering its proprietary food safety services to seafood producers around the globe.

This increase in aquaculture production has already begun. In fact, aquaculture creates almost half of the seafood production that takes place today: "Aquaculture represented 47 percent of global food fish production in 2010, compared with just 9 percent in 1980," asserts the previously cited article.

With such a high volume of seafood being produced, it is likely that the risk for foodborne illness is elevated--and is rising with each additional metric ton that these companies sell. Global Food Technologies, an organization that provides the iPura Food Safety Program to seafood producers, is urging these companies to take food safety regulations seriously.

The proprietary operational processes that Global Food Technologies has developed could play an important role in the impending growth of seafood production. By implementing food safety operations now, seafood production companies will be better equipped to handle higher volumes.

Keeping up with demand is important to a business' bottom line, and getting shut down for failure to comply with food safety regulations, could devastate producers as will major recalls. "By implementing the solutions offered by GFT now, companies can better prepare their locations to process an increased volume of seafood without compromising the safety, quality, and sustainability of the product they sell." states Keith Meeks, president of GFT

The solutions designed by Global Food Technologies are science-based and incorporate the on-site expertise of microbiologists and other safety and quality professionals. By providing on-site service, the company can ensure that its operations are carried out accurately while controlling the food safety of all aspects of seafood production, including packaging and distribution.

ABOUT:

Global Food Technologies develops and implements on-site food safety operations targeted at minimizing foodborne illness. Through its proprietary operational processes, GFT enhances the quality, safety, and taste of seafood sold by producers around the world. Global Food Technologies' mission is to apply its advanced science to the proprietary design, development, and production of commercial products and services to improve food processing methods and food safety results.
