Envision Beauty: Summer Skincare Mistakes to Avoid

Envision Beauty assists consumers in avoiding a major summer skincare mistake--the improper use of day creams and sunscreens.

2012-08-07
NEW YORK, NY, August 07, 2012 (Press-News.org) Many consumers are well aware of the fact that they have a multitude of sun protectants from which to choose. From "day creams," or moisturizing lotions that contain SPF protection, to individual sunscreen products, these items are available in a wide range of forms. Because proper sun protection is crucial during the summer months, Envision Beauty is urging consumers to reconsider their typical sunscreen habits and look at alternative ways to guard their skin against UV rays.

According to The Huffington Post, many individuals are unaware of how to properly use sunscreen products. A survey conducted by the Skin Cancer Foundation reports that over 60 percent of men believe that a single application of sunscreen will last for four hours or more.

The article asserts that this is not the case, as many sun protectants lose effectiveness after as little as two hours. Additionally, sunscreens should be reapplied more often if an individual is sweating or swimming, as moisture can cause the sunscreen to lose strength faster.

The professionals at Envision Beauty remind consumers that, while properly applying sunscreen is important, it is only part of the solution. Many people rely on moisturizing products, such as so-called "day creams" that include SPF protection, as their primary sunscreen. These individuals often apply the product in the morning and assume that it protects them throughout the day. Not only may the product's effectiveness against UV rays lessen over the course of just a couple of hours, many day creams offer low SPF levels in the first place.

"Relying on a 'day cream' as a sunscreen can create a false sense of security," cautions Tunde Benak, spokesperson for Envision Beauty. "People often apply these creams in the morning and assume that they will be protected from the sun's rays all day long. What they don't realize is that the sunscreen in their 'day cream' might wear off before lunchtime, especially if they are active. Using a separate sunscreen instead of a day cream allows individuals to refresh their sun protection throughout the day and adjust SPF coverage based upon sun exposure."

Envision Beauty advises that using sunscreen-free skincare products and applying sunscreen separately allows for greater control over one's UV protection. Envision Beauty urges individuals to protect against the sun in other ways, such as wearing a hat and sunglasses and using an umbrella at the beach.
