NEW YORK, NY, January 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) Agora Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition. This will be the 26th year of the well-known annual competition, which will begin accepting entries on February 2nd, 2011. The prizes total a value of $38,000, and include a range of awards, all designed to aid in promoting the careers of the artists whose work will be selected by an independent juror. Awards include participation in an exhibition in a prominent gallery in the heart of Chelsea, the New York art district, internet promotional efforts and cash prizes. The exhibition of the work of the selected artists will take place August 19th 2011 through September 9th 2010.
The juror of the 2011 competition is Elisabeth Sherman, Curatorial Assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where she conducts research into contemporary artists.
The juror of the 2010 Chelsea International Fine Art Competition was Megan Fontanella, Assistant Curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. The exhibition of the work of the selected artists, which received much attention, took place August 17th through September 7th, 2010 and the popular opening reception was on August 19th, 2010. Jose A. Gallego, one of the selected artists of the 2010 competition, spoke about his experience last year: "My experience with Agora Gallery has been very positive. Although I could not attend the exhibition itself for reasons of travel, everything related to the exhibition has been very professional throughout. Working with a gallery like this is always a help to the creative work of a photographer."
All forms of art are accepted for submission other than video art, film, performance art, jewelry and crafts. All artists over the age of 18 are eligible to enter.
There is an entry fee of $35 for up to five images, with an additional charge of $5 for each additional image. Submission is online, and artists are encouraged to have their contact details, information about the relevant artwork and high quality images in JPG format available when they begin the process.
