NEW YORK, NY, January 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) Organizers are hard at work on the first annual New York City Vegetarian Food Festival, which will arrive on Sunday, April 3, in the Chelsea district of Manhattan.
Touted as a celebration and showcase of cruelty-free food, the festival will come complete with speakers, live music, and food contests. Attendees will be able to sample and buy vegetarian food and related lifestyle wares. There will also be information tables for non-profit groups such as Mercy for Animals, which will hand out free literature and vegetarian starter kits to help people connect humane issues to eating.
According to one of the brains behind the festival, Nira Paliwoda, "This is inevitabe for a city with so many conscious eaters. None of us can believe that it has never happened on this scale before."
Paliwoda is an event planner and self-described foodie. For the Festival, she has teamed up with fellow producer Sarah Gross. Gross is the founder of the year-old Rescue Chocolate company, which offers a line of vegan chocolate bars and truffles benefiting homeless pets.
"New York has been desperately needing an event to shine the spotlight on the area's vibrant vegan food producers, restaurants, and luminaries. This festival will bring the whole spectrum of vegetarian foods, nutrition experts, celebrity chefs, and inspirational lifestyle coaches together in one place," Gross said.
One of the speakers to be featured is celebrated author Victoria Moran, who will present a talk on The Love-Powered Way to Lifelong Weight Loss and Leading a Charmed Life.
Admission to the festival is free. And one doesn't have to be a vegetarian to attend. "It's for locavores, flexitarians, anyone who maybe wants to find out more about living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle," Paliwoda said.
