2012-12-05
LONGWOOD, FL, December 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Sonia Lee makes no bones about the growing need for recovery. "Everyone is recovering from something," she shares with audiences explaining her musical calling to writing and performing recovery music. We all need help sometimes. Lee's music encourages, inspires, and shines the light of darkness.

Butterfly is a 13-song collection of original songs that gently invite the listener to make subtle movement toward positive change. Holding up the metaphoric mirror, this musical collection reminds us that mistake, change, and bootstrap pick-me-ups are inevitable. What we do in those moments are the choices chronicled song-by-song on Sonia Lee's fourth musical project.

The instrumentation is "folky" and country, with angelic vocals that send shivers down your spine. In a world that idolizes vocals powerful enough to cause a concussion, this unburdened vocal stands out in its continuous refusal to be more than a whisper.

Never preachy, but never underestimating the personal responsibility of our choices, Butterfly requires something of the listener. From Shortcut, which teeters us on the brink of terror and take-off to Ripples' been-there-giving-back grace, we float along in a comforting musical cradle. The discomfort of truth found in Running From The Fire about relationships that toughen us by almost killing us and the cost of healing in What Price teach who we are by what we've done. The humor expressed in Lookin' Like Fun and the forgiveness in For the Love of God allows us to laugh and to love ourselves again.
Singer-songwriter Sonia Lee, a two-time Kerrville Folk Festival finalist, delivers sweet vocals. The lush, softness of her music has staying power - staying in your play list, staying in your head, and staying in your heart.
