RALEIGH, NC, December 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Royal Oaks Homes, LLC (http://www.royaloakshomes.com), an award-winning residential new homebuilder, has announced that as a supporter of Operation: Coming Home, a nonprofit organization providing custom-built homes to disabled combat veterans, it will join partners Triangle Veterans Association, Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA), and Lexington Plantation, among others, in presenting U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Richie Chavis and his family with a new home Monday, Dec. 10. The home, located in Cameron, N.C., in Royal Oaks Homes' Lexington Plantation, is the fourth Operation: Coming Home Hero Home to be donated to a military veteran severely wounded in combat service. While there will be no monthly payment from the day the Chavis family moves in, ownership will be vested over a five-year period to Chavis.
Chavis lost both legs after being wounded by an Improvised Explosive Device after only two months of serving in Afghanistan. A native of Lumberton, N.C., Chavis was a member of the 1/8 Weapons Company, 2 D Marine Division based out of Camp Lejeune. Royal Oaks Homes recognized him as the recipient of the latest Hero Home after the first quarter of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill football game on Sept. 29, as part of the university's Military Appreciation Day.
Groundbreaking for the project occurred on Aug. 16. Specially fitted and wheelchair friendly, the new home will include a number of features designed to ensure easy accessibility to all rooms. Royal Oaks Homes provided management and coordinated the manpower for the construction as it worked with Lexington Plantation, which donated the lot, the second time in as many years that they have. Chavis, his wife and their children will attend the ceremony to receive the key to their new home along with invited guests and members of Operation: Coming Home on Monday, Dec. 10, just in time for the holidays. Since Operation: Coming Home started in 2007, Royal Oaks Homes has participated in the creation of all four Hero Homes, as well as in the selection committee that reviews which veteran should be honored by the project.
QUOTES:
"We are humbled to continue our support of Operation: Coming Home, a deserving tribute to our troops for their service to our country," said Rich Van Tassel, president of Royal Oaks Homes. "U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Richie Chavis is a most worthy recipient of this Hero Home, and we look forward to seeing him and his family enjoy their new residence, as well as supporting the development of the next Hero Home."
