The British study of 1,030 people compares the extent of bone mineral density (BMD)* loss – a common measure of osteoporosis – in two physical locations in the body. The results of a Dutch study of 300 patients demonstrated that 22% of patients with Sjögren's syndrome were classified as clinically 'alexithymic' (experiencing difficulty identifying and describing emotions) compared to 12% of healthy controls.
