HOUSTON, TX, January 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) Laser tattoo removal is one of several non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed at the Bella Rosa Rejuvenation Clinic in Houston, Texas. Founded by world renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Mark A. Schusterman, MD, FACS, Bella Rosa Clinic, BellaRosaClinic.com is located within the Museum District Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center. Dr. Schusterman has personally approved all of the Bella Rosa procedures to be safe and effective.
The advancement of medical laser technology has fostered the development of a number of non-surgical cosmetic procedures. The popularity of these procedures prompted Dr. Schusterman to expand his plastic surgery practice--AlwaysYouthful.com--with non-surgical cosmetic services offered through the Bella Rosa Rejuvenation Clinic, BellaRosaClinic.com. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, both surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures have increased almost 150% over the last decade.
Different types of medical lasers are used depending on the purpose of the non-surgical procedure. Laser tattoo removal at Bella Rosa is performed with state-of-the-art Q-switched laser technology. Q-switching lasers generate highly concentrated and rapidly pulsating beams of light to break down the tattoo ink pigments in the outer layer of skin. The resulting ink particles are safely absorbed into the body and carried away by the lymphatic system.
The results of Q-switched laser tattoo removal range from total erasure to a significant reduction in visibility. Factors that affect the end results include the colors in the tattoo, chemical makeup of the inks and depth of skin penetration. Older and darker ink colors are easier to totally erase than newer tattoos with lighter ink. In general, Dr. Schusterman asserts that most tattoos can be successfully treated with this technology.
A laser tattoo removal treatment can last between 10-30 minutes depending upon the size and location of the artwork. he length and number of treatments is also determined by the factors presented above. In optimum conditions only one treatment may be required. However, five is usually the norm, with more difficult cases being treated longer. Treatments are usually scheduled 6-8 weeks apart to allow the body the time it takes to absorb the broken-down ink particles.
For the majority of patients, the Q-switching laser process is relatively painless. The pulsing sensation is equated with the snap of a rubber band against the skin. Local anesthesia is available but rarely necessary. There are no known side-effects from the procedure, other than a temporary whitening and swelling directly on the area that was treated. The concentration of the laser light beam keeps surrounding skin from being affected in any way.
Laser treatment is the only effective procedure for tattoo removal that does not present the possibility for scarring. Alternative procedures include surgery, chemical peels and salabrasion, the use of salt to burn through the skin. These treatments are both painful and likely to produce scars. Other forms of tattoo remover such as creams and lotions have never proven effective.
