SAN DIEGO, CA, January 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) Even though statistically the cause of infertility is fairly evenly divided between male and female factors, a diagnosis of male infertility can deliver a tough blow to a man. First, he may never have known he could be the reason for his wife's failure to get pregnant. Then he may wonder if he could have done something to prevent this problem. Perhaps being like a typical man who wants to take action, he next will want to know how his infertility can be solved and treated. Then guilt may sink in as he realizes his wife will need to undergo most of the procedures in order to have a family.
On the January 27 episode of The Surrogacy Lawyer: Your Guide to IVF and Third Party Family Building, Theresa Erickson, Esq., will be discussing these and other issues when she interviews Dr. Mark Perloe of (GRS) Georgia Reproductive Specialists (www.ivf.com) and Greg Wolfe, author of the recently released How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup (www.plasticupbook.com). The show will air on Thursday, January 27 at 11AM PST/2PM EST on Voice America.
As Medical Director of GRS, one of the most respected infertility practices in the South, Dr. Mark Perloe has expertise in treating a wide range of infertility conditions, including male factor infertility, and has extensive experience in in vitro fertilization, and the use of donor eggs, donor sperm, and gestational surrogacy. In 1986, he co-authored Miracle Babies and Other Happy Endings for Couples with Fertility Problems. A California native, Greg Wolfe wrote the humorous book How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup as a guy's guide to infertility after he and his wife, Julie, went through four IVF cycles before joyfully welcoming their son, Connor, into the world in March 2009.
"A diagnosis of male infertility can be so shocking for the husband or male partner," says Erickson. "It is important to demystify its causes and how male reproductive health can be optimized and treated, as well as how guys feel and react to this life-changer. It's good to know there are resources for men, just like for their wives, to which they can turn during this period in their lives."
