Holiday Drinking And Driving: Author Robin G. Sagstetter Helps Drivers Realize Their Rights

Do you know your rights? In a recent survey conducted by the McCormick Tribune Foundation, only 28% of Americans were able to name more than one of the five fundamental rights in the First Amendment.

2012-11-30
LAGUNA BEACH, CA, November 30, 2012 (Press-News.org) California Highway Patrol will be conducting a "maximum enforcement" campaign this holiday season in an effort to make arrests for drivers who are under the influence. This campaign will not only target drivers under the influence of alcohol, but under the influence of drugs as well. One major misconception people have is that drugs only include illegal drugs. However, drugs include prescription drugs as well. Author Robin G. Sagstetter's new book, Rights During a Police Stop/DUI in The United States: What Officers Can and Can Not Do http://www.realizeyourrights.com empowers Americans with necessary legal rights they should know in the event of a police stop.

While many drivers are unsure of their rights, more may be surprised as they do their daily commute that in the State of California alone there were 105,388 DUI arrests according to the 2010 FBI Uniform Crime Report. This fact is alarming as the Federal Bureau of Investigation reports that in 2010 there were 1,412,223 DUIs in the United States.

"It would be disastrous if someone had a car accident without insurance. Likewise, a disastrous situation could occur from someone failing to know his or her rights at a police stop. People may face hefty fines, imprisonment or even lost custody rights of their children by unnecessarily incriminating themselves. Like insurance for rights, this book is essential knowledge for everyday life. When something as important as your rights are at stake, it is irresponsible, as an American, to not Realize your Rights," shares Sagstetter.

"Now more than ever, you need to Realize Your Rights. Americans have rights which protect them from unreasonable searches and seizures. Nevertheless, police are trained in getting people to give up those rights, allowing officers to conduct legal breath, chemical and field sobriety tests, as well as searches of people and their vehicles, all of which people have a right to refuse in certain situations and jurisdictions," states Sagstetter.

Sagstetter earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of California Irvine where she majored in English, minored in Criminology, Law & Society and received two Emphases in Creative Writing. She also earned part of her undergraduate degree at Cambridge University in England. Thereafter, Robin attended law school, taught various legal classes as a college professor, worked for many years in the legal field and created Realize Your Rights.
