Someone Cares Soup Kitchen Hosts Happy Hour Fundraiser

Kicks-Off Holiday Campaign To Help Feed Orange County's Less Fortunate

2012-11-30
TUSTIN, CA, November 30, 2012 (Press-News.org) Someone Cares Soup Kitchen announces the official launch of the 2012 Holiday Campaign with a happy hour fundraiser event. The event will be held at the swanky Marrakesh restaurant in Costa Mesa on Wednesday, December 12 from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

The "Christmas in Marrakesh" event will be hosted by Chuck Dukas from Dancing with the Stars and will feature special guest DJ Julian flown in for the night to spin the tunes. For a suggested donation of $20, Marrakesh will be serving delicious complimentary Moroccan appetizers, and guests will be treated to entertaining belly dancers, a silent auction and a live auction.

"Someone Cares Soup Kitchen is kicking-off its annual holiday campaign in-style with the ultimate happy hour fundraising event," said Corey Donaldson, who has been leading the holiday campaigns with Someone Cares Soup Kitchen since 2009. "Now, more than ever, there are so many people including families and kids who are hungry and in need of our support. What better way than to make a difference than through a highly entertaining and delicious happy hour?"

Someone Cares Soup Kitchen was founded 26 years ago and has been serving up nutritious meals ever since. Today, more than 450 guests are served daily, seven days per week. The Soup Kitchen is open Monday through Friday from 1-4 p.m., and a pancake breakfast is served every Saturday and Sunday morning. The people being served by Someone Cares crosses every demographic imaginable: from families with school-aged children, to the working poor, unemployed, senior citizens, mentally and physically challenged and the homeless.

"Our ability to provide hot, nutritious meals and other much-needed services daily has been made possible through the support of our community and our corporate partners," said Shannon Santos, executive director of Someone Cares Soup Kitchen. "We are grateful for the Holiday Campaign that helps make the holiday season special for hundreds of families and individuals in need."

Warm Coats, Socks & Toys Help Warm the Hearts of Those In Need:
In addition to financial donations that can go a long way in feeding Orange County's less fortunate, Someone Cares Soup Kitchen is also seeking contributions such as socks, warm coats and toys. Every year the Soup Kitchen assembles 450 backpacks for adults and seniors that find themselves upon difficult times during the holiday season. Donations from the holiday campaign have allowed Someone Cares Soup Kitchen to fill hundreds of backpacks, host the annual holiday dinner and give away thousands of new, unwrapped toys as well as support the Soup Kitchen's ongoing programs, including its tutoring center for at-risk children.
