LONDON, ENGLAND, January 26, 2013 (Press-News.org) Beth Burgess, owner of Smyls Coaching & Consulting, has been commissioned by NHS North East London and the City (NELC) to provide a series of specialist Anti-Stress workshops to help staff deal with their levels of stress at work.
NELC has booked a number of workshops at PCTs in Islington, Hackney and Ilford, as part of its health and well-being programme for staff.
"One of the mistakes that people make when feeling overloaded or uncertain is believing that their ability to control their stress levels is out of their hands," says Beth. "But there is a lot that you can do with your own mind and body to combat stress responses, and instead be productive and calm. We all know someone who never gets stressed out. I teach people how to be that person and to use positive physical and mental resources to eliminate stress."
Beth uses a unique mixture of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) and Solution-focused techniques to deliver workshops that aim to be both enjoyable and effective.
The first of these Anti-Stress workshops has already proved popular at the NHS, with 100 per cent of attendees saying they would recommend the sessions to their colleagues.
Margaret O' Donovan, Quality & Clinical Governance Manager at Redbridge PCT, gave the workshop she attended the maximum score possible for both enjoyment and usefulness, saying: "It was a very open, helpful and therapeutic session. I feel better, more positive and happier."
Workshop attendees included a mixture of staff, from managers to nurses.
"I am delighted to be able to help NHS staff control their stress levels," Beth says. "They all work so hard and do a great job, and it's nice to be able to help them feel better able to cope."
"It is really important that organisations put provisions in place to help their staff deal with workplace stress," she adds. "Unhappiness and stress lead to lost productivity, an increase in sick days and high employee turnover. Investing in the well-being of your staff saves money, time and resources overall."
