Darla Lippert On Massage's Impact on Autistic Children

Darla Lippert, owner of Get to the Root salon and day spa, is issuing comment on a new article discussing massage's benefits for autistic children.

PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 16, 2013

Darla Lippert, who is a hair stylist and salon owner, has issued a statement to the press on a new article that depicts how autistic children can benefit from regular massage. A new article discusses how massage can help to make autistic children feel more comfortable with human contact. Regular treatments can also help a child feel more comfortable with developing personal relationships, which is something that many autistic children struggle with.

For autistic children, even hugging and cuddling can feel unpleasant. Through regular massage, children become more accustomed to this type of touch, and begin to open up to parents and caregivers. Regular treatments are believed to help bolster a kid's social skills, as well as their behavioral patterns. These changes can help to strengthen a child's relationship with his or her parents, and can improve their quality of life.

Some people feel that massage is only for wealthy people, or for those with extra income to spend on such luxuries. Parents of autistic children often do not even think to consider getting massages for their children, since they are viewed as an extra and not a necessity. However, these new findings are encouraging people to look at the practice as a form of medical care, since it does include many health-related benefits. These perks include improved circulation, decreased stress levels, improved range of motion, and faster recovery from illness and injury.

Darla Lippert comments on these findings stating, "A large majority of my clients come in to receive massage for medical purposes. Whether they're hoping to see the benefits of reduced stress levels, or are hoping to ease chronic pain, massage is not just an unnecessary luxury reserved for the rich and famous. Many normal people see noticeable benefits from regular treatments. It is inspiring and amazing to me that children who have autism might be able to reap the benefits of massage."

Massage therapists are now able to get certified in massage for autistic clients. These professionals can then tailor their treatments to fit that client's specific list of needs.

Now, parents are also able to receive training in performing massage for their children at home. This allows them to administer the massage personally, which promotes further bonding between parent and child. This is especially important when the boy or girl normally does not feel comfortable with physical contact.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new findings that show that the prevalence of autism has risen from one in 88 children in 2012 to one in 50 children today. Darla Lippert comments on this stating, "As the presence of autism in our society continues to grow, it's important that parents are equipped with the tools to help provide a high-quality life for their son or daughter."
