Web Designer William Bleimeister Highlights Top Web Design Tips

William Bleimeister offers a few tips for companies seeking to design more effective websites.

PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 20, 2013

According to Web design professional William Bleimeister, not all Web designs are created equal--and anyone who has ever visited a poorly-designed website knows it. This is an important concept for businesses to understand, because the design of a corporate website may or may not be the most effective choice for boosting conversions. To illustrate his point, Bleimeister highlights a recent article from HTML Goodies. The article lists five steps for businesses to take as they seek to generate conversions through savvy Web design; William Bleimeister has responded with a statement to the press.

"In theory, a company website should be a 24/7 sales machine, but many businesses find that their sites simply do not lend themselves to sales and conversions," Bleimeister explains, in his press release. "If your company website is not selling your products, though, then it is just taking up space. This article offers some great tips on how to design websites that actually convert."

The first tip from HTML Goodies is to "eliminate the paradox of choice." Essentially, this means that website users, when faced with a number of choices, are less likely to make the one choice the business wants them to make. As such, companies should clearly highlight their calls-to-action.

"This is especially true on product landing pages," Bleimeister offers. "You want someone to click and buy the product, not to navigate away or to get distracted by some other on-page element, so minimizing the choices here is critical."

A related point in the HTML Goodies article is to eliminate clutter. The best websites are the ones where every element of the design serves a purpose, the article contends, and businesses are smart to keep their pages straight-to-the-point.

HTML Goodies also encourages businesses to comply with the "Gutenberg Rule" of reader behavior. This principle states that a reader's attention naturally gravitates toward the top left and bottom right corners of the page, making these the areas where calls-to-action, product order information, and phone numbers should be placed.

Still another point made in the article is for businesses to implement a certain level of "hand-holding" on their websites. In other words, it is smart to use arrows and oversized buttons to direct a website user's attention.

The final tip from HTML Goodies is for designers to avoid using stock photos, in all circumstances.

"The bottom line for businesses is that a good website is not just one that looks good, but one that actually drives the user to take action," notes Bleimeister. "These design tips all provide some good ways for doing exactly that. Companies should make sure that, when they work with Web design firms, they choose firms that understand the importance of conversion-boosting design, not just flash and gimmicks."
