CHARLOTTE, NC, May 26, 2013

Creative Loafing, a SouthComm media company, announced today that the recently vacated editor position will be filled by a female for the first time in 25 years in the Charlotte market. On May 28, Kimberly Lawson will take the helm of CL's editorial staff of award-winning journalists.

Lawson began her journalistic career with Creative Loafing seven years ago. She worked her way up from copy editor to operations editor, which transitioned into managing editor and now editor. Publisher Wendy Goldstein is "happy to see Kim rise up through the ranks and looks forward to working with her to continually improve the quality of the Creative Loafing product." As editor, Lawson plans to focus on growing readership on the website, experimenting with format, and continuing to expand the print product into a dynamic multimedia source for all things arts and entertainment.

Lawson earned a B.A. in English from Augusta State University and her M.A. in creative writing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Often found writing fiction in local coffee shops, working to emulate her mother's Korean recipes and attempting to perfect her warrior pose in yoga, Lawson is a true enthusiast of the arts and entertainment scene in Charlotte.
