RALEIGH, NC, May 31, 2013 (Press-News.org) The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (http://www.ncvma.org) has announced that the Friends of the NCVMA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the organization, donated $750 to Reins from Above, a therapeutic riding center located in Clayton, N.C. This donation will help the organization fulfill its mission to provide horseback riding as therapy to children and adults with special needs. Research shows that those who participate in hippotherapy and therapeutic riding can experience physical, emotional and mental rewards. Benefits of the program include improved confidence, self-esteem, balance, flexibility, range of motion, muscle tone, strength, behavior, ability to stay on task, quality of movement and decreased need for medication.
NCVMA District 3 representative Dr. Sara Lash selected Reins from Above for this donation. The Friends of the NCVMA Foundation annually allocates $750 to each of its 11 districts in North Carolina to help fund endeavors assisting animals and citizens across the state.
QUOTES:
"It is an honor to support Reins from Above," said Claire Holley, executive director of the NCVMA. "It is truly remarkable to see how a horse can motivate riders to use their hands, legs and voices in ways that they never have done before, in addition to the meaningful boost to riders' sense of self worth and self-esteem. This organization's mission to offer horseback riding as therapy to individuals with such a wide range of special needs is truly admirable."
