Four Shelters, One Goal: Finding Homes for Chicago's Four-Legged Friends

Four Local Animal Shelters Team Up for the Cats June 22 & 23

2013-06-13
CHICAGO, IL, June 13, 2013 (Press-News.org) On June 22 and 23, four popular Chicago animal shelters will come together for a 2-day adoption event called the Windy City Feline Frenzy to find homes for Chicago's felines during the peak of "Kitten Season"—a time of year when the cat population is on the rise.

The Anti-Cruelty Society, Chicago Animal Care and Control, Tree House Humane Society, and Felines & Canines will simultaneously host the Windy City Feline Frenzy in which cat adopters will receive major discounts on adoption fees when they "scoop" for a discount. Those adopting a cat that is 6 months or older on June 22 or 23 at any of the shelters listed above will scoop out of a litter box one of the following discounts:

• $50 adoption fee
• $25 adoption fee
• Waived fee
• Name Your Price

"Within the past decade we have seen the dog population in Chicago decline due to major spay/neuter efforts as well as the societal acceptance of pet adoption in general," said Dr. Robyn Barbiers, President of The Anti-Cruelty Society. "Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for the cat population. On average The Anti-Cruelty Society houses about 75% more cats than dogs."

Between all four shelters, adoption fees normally range from $60 to $100 per cat. This adoption fee includes all vaccinations, spay or neuter, permanent identification microchip, and a veterinary examination.

"Cats make great companions. They are fun, affectionate, and don't need to go for walks," said Abby Smith, Executive Director of Felines & Canines. "There are many different kinds of cats that are in Chicago's shelters waiting for their forever home. We encourage everyone to spend some time with cats and give them a chance to steal your heart."
