Nine-car crash leaves one killed and five hurt

Drivers who fail to pay attention can be extremely dangerous to other motorists. A recent accident provides one example.

2013-06-14
June 14, 2013 (Press-News.org) Drivers who fail to pay attention can be extremely dangerous to other motorists. A recent accident provides one example.

Driver hits car head on while driving in wrong direction

According to KABC-TV Los Angeles, a driver driving on the wrong side of the street hit an oncoming car head on, causing additional cars to collide. KABC-TV Los Angeles reported that one person was killed, and five others were injured as a result.

People who have suffered injuries in a car accident may find themselves facing expensive medical bills and long physical recovery from their injuries. If lives are lost in the crash, the immediate family may also be entitled to compensation.

Steps to take after an accident

After a car accident, there are some helpful steps to take. Most importantly, a driver should stay at the scene. By remaining at the crash, drivers can find out if anyone needs medical attention. Leaving the scene of an accident can also result in criminal penalties.

If anyone has suffered injuries, call emergency services to make sure they receive medical attention as quickly as possible. If the crash has caused serious damage to a vehicle, call the police. After contacting authorities, it's advised to make note of relevant details related to the accident. A motorist can even use a cell phone or camera to take pictures or video of the surroundings and the damage. Make note of the weather, and talk to witnesses to find out what they saw.

Once the injured motorists have addressed some of the primary concerns regarding damage and injuries, do not forget to exchange car insurance information with the other drivers, as well as names and phone numbers. Depending on the severity of the injuries, it's also essential to address and document any medical treatment that's required to address the injuries.

In any accident claim, the law of negligence generally decides which driver was at fault. When operating an automobile, drivers are expected to exercise "reasonable care under the circumstances." If an individual fails to use reasonable care, causes an injury, he or she is considered negligent. A negligent driver may be required to pay for any damages, caused either to a person or to property, as a result of his or her negligence.

Given the cost of medical care following accidents, it may be beneficial for those who have been injured in a car accident to seek the advice of a capable attorney who is familiar with handling personal injury claims. An experienced car accident lawyer can work with insurance companies and medical personnel and may be able to help the injured motorist obtain compensation for medical bills, lost wages and even pain and suffering.

Sydney: A laboratory study has found that bicycle helmets certified to Australia's national standard significantly reduce the causes of head, skull and brain injury - linear and angular head accelerations, and the impact force of a crash. Crashing without a helmet exposes the head to accelerations and forces – or loads - up to 9.5 times greater than with a helmet and so greatly increases the risk of head, skull and brain injury, according to a detailed biomechanical study published in the journal Traffic Injury Prevention. "Our findings confirm that bicycle helmets certified ...
