Detroit Artists and Musicians Offer Giving Songs a Helping Hand

Fundraiser for Multi-Disabled Children at The Park Bar on Saturday June 15, 2013

2013-06-15
FERNDALE, MI, June 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) Michigan-based charity Giving Songs along with GuitarGrip will host a fundraising event on Saturday, June 15 at The Park Bar (2040 Park Avenue, Detroit) for blind, multi-disabled children. The event will feature live music by Amy Gore and Her Valentines, The Questions, and Brian Rizza, an appearance by The Retro Girls plus works of art from Lucky Monkey Tattoo, Tony Roko, Kill Taupe, Sabrina Nelson, Bowen Kline, and many more artists. In addition to the common canvas, artists will spotlight their work on hand-shaped guitar hangers donated by GuitarGrip (available for sale with proceeds benefiting the charity). Patrons will also have an opportunity to win a Fender Stratocaster signed by Detroit's-own Mitch Ryder.

"Giving Songs a Helping Hand" runs from 8 pm - 12:30 am, and all ages are welcome to attend. Advance tickets are $25 and now available online at givingsongs.com. Tickets are $40 at the door. Admission includes delicious Mediterranean food by the Bucharest Grill and a copy of Giving Songs CD "Making Music That Moves You." All proceeds benefit Giving Songs.

Giving Songs is a charitable organization that helps families with blind, multi-disabled children. In addition to providing informational and financial support, Giving Songs assists families with purchasing MV-1 mobility-lift vehicles. The MV-1, which is built by Allen Park-based company VPG, allows easier transport of wheelchair-bound children because it is one of the only "off-the-line" vehicles designed specifically for wheelchair use. Two MV-1's will be on display at the Park Bar event.

"It is wonderful to see so many artists and musicians donating their time and talents to our cause. The amazing support that we are receiving for this event will allow us to continue to provide life-changing services to families with blind, multi-disabled children. Words simply cannot describe our gratitude," says Brent Johnson, President of Giving Songs.

Plymouth-based GuitarGrip approached Giving Songs late last year with hopes of teaming up with the local charity and using GuitarGrip's unique line of products to generate proceeds for the organization. "At the time we already had local and national artists painting our hand shaped guitar hangers and these were being sold on our site," said GuitarGrip CEO Michael Ryan. "The idea was to develop this further so that a portion of the proceeds from these 'artist originals' could be donated to a charity and we really wanted to help a local, Detroit-area charity. When we found Giving Songs, a local charity that helps children through music, we thought they were a perfect match for us."

Giving Songs generates the majority of its proceeds from donations and from the sale of its first CD, Making Music That Moves You. The CD features music by local musicians who donated their time and talents to the cause.

Amy Gore and Her Valentines are one of Metro Detroit's hottest live acts. Gore was recently named a top female act in Detroit by CW50, and the group's single 'Drivin' Around' is currently featured in the new Chevy Equinox commercial.

Don't miss a night of stellar art, food and entertainment for a great cause!
