WICHITA, KS, November 07, 2010 (Press-News.org) Hundreds of pieces of rare and vintage art glass, consigned by several prominent collectors, will be sold at auction Saturday, Dec. 11, in the 4H Hall of the Sedgwick County Extension Center in Wichita, Kan., starting promptly at 9:30 a.m. (CST). The auction will be conducted by Woody Auction, based in Douglass, Kan., its final sale of the year.
"This is the perfect finish to what has been a pretty good year for us," said Jason Woody of Woody Auction. "Serious collectors of art glass need to make plans today to attend this very exciting auction." Featured will be the Rita Klyce art glass collection, the Jim and Eunice Becker R.S. Prussia collection and the Betty Murphy fairy lamp collection, plus other fine consignments.
Offered will be Wave Crest, Tiffany, R.S. Prussia, Royal Bayreuth, Royal Worcester, Daum Nancy (to include a nice selection of cameos), Galle, Thomas Webb & Sons, silver, jade, fairy lamps and more. Wave Crest pieces will include an 11 ½ inch scroll mold plaque framed by a 16-inch gilt floral cobalt blue border with gold highlights, and a full-body scene of a young woman in a green flowing dress in a field of pink flowers; and a similar plaque but having a gilt floral green border and a full-body scene of a young woman in a pink dress outstretched in a field of blue flowers.
Tiffany pieces certain to wow the crowd include a rare 6-inch signed decorated vase with a pulled feather design on a butterscotch and green iridescent background; an 11 ½ inch signed flower form wine glass with unique coloring and gold opalescent background; and a rare 6-piece signed "Louis Comfort Studios" desk set with bronze pine needle decor and slag glass panels.
Fans of R.S. Prussia will not be disappointed. Pieces will include a 10 ¼ inch Mold 203 bowl with outstanding satin finish and stag scenic decor; a 12-inch unmarked teardrop-shaped hidden image bowl, cream colored with a green border, wildflower highlights and gold trim; and a rare 11-piece child's tea set still in the original box with duck runner and swallow scenic decor.
Royal Bayreuth will feature a 4-inch figural Santa (blue mark) creamer with green coat, while Royal Worcester will include a 21-inch figural "Crick Lite" fairy lamp with a figure of a woman standing by a tree, searching for a mother bird. Another fairy lamp of note is a cute 5 ½ inch art glass example, with cranberry Nailsea base and matching shade, and clear Clarke insert.
Also sold will be a 6 ¼ inch signed Thomas Webb & Sons English cameo 2-color vase with yellow background and orange floral and butterfly carved cameo decor; a 24 ¾ inch Galle 3-color cameo cut floor vase with white, apricot and green coloring; and a finely engraved silver icon plaque depicting a marriage scene, with French enamel panels and heavy gilt metal frame.
Competition should be fierce for a 19-inch solid jade figural group of an elderly man standing with five children climbing over him. The piece weighs nearly 40 lbs. Daum Nancy pieces will feature a 13-inch, 3-color cameo cut pedestal vase with dark silhouette tree and lake scenic background; and a 16-inch signed 5-color cameo cut vase with a floral blossom decor.
The Daum Nancy cameos are certain to get paddles wagging. Examples include a 2 ¼ inch miniature vase with white swirl background and springtime tree and field scenic decor; a 1 ½ inch signed miniature oval vase with amber background and fall season lake and tree scenic decor; and a 3-inch signed miniature stick vase, 4-color, with a nice lake and tree scenic decor.
Other Daum cameos will include a 1 ¾ inch signed oval vase with floral decor and white, lavender and green background; a 1 ¾ inch signed miniature vase with spring season decor; a 2-inch signed cut toothpick holder with white opaque background and Lily of the Valley scenic decor; a toothpick holder, with springtime lake and tree decor; a 1 5/8 inch signed oval vase with Venice boat scenic decor; and a 2-inch salt dip, white and green, with great floral blossom decor.
The Sedgwick County Extension Center is located at 7001 West 21st Street, at the corner of 21st Street and Ridge Road in Wichita, Kan. The recommended lodging facility is Hawthorne Suites (ph: 316-729-5700). A sales tax of 7.3 percent will be collected on all purchases (current sales tax numbers are exempt). In-person, Internet, phone and absentee bids will all be accepted.
Woody Auction will kick off 2011 with a huge estate auction slated for Saturday, Jan. 22, also at the Sedgwick County Extension Center in Wichita, at 9:30 a.m (CST).
