A recent CompetingCarPrices.com survey indicates that the majority of new car buyers are satisfied with their new car buying experience. CompetingCarPrices.com surveyed over 1,000 consumers actively shopping for a new vehicle. When asked how they would rate their previous buying experience 53% responded that it was positive. They had no problems at the dealership and purchased the exact vehicle they intended to buy.The remaining 47% reported an average to poor buying experience. The main reason for dealer dissatisfaction was consumers' inability to purchase the vehicle they wanted. A whopping 36% of shoppers surveyed reported leaving the dealership without the vehicle they wanted. About 20% of those surveyed reported condescending salesman as the main reason for their negative experience.
The experts at CompetingCarPrices.com recommend the following - to ensure all new car buyers have the most positive buying experience:
1. Learn the actual MSRP and invoice price before speaking with a dealer.
2. Research all available discount offers such as rebates or cash-back deals.
3. Find out the actual trade in value of their old vehicle.
4. Request new car price quotes for the exact car they are shopping for from as many local dealerships as possible.
5. Confirm the dealer's offer is for the exact vehicle (trim, color, options) they want.
6. Work with new car dealerships via email or over the phone; limiting the time spent face to face with the dealer.
7. Only negotiate the purchase price of the vehicle, not including trade-ins, rebates, incentives or other special offers.
8. Pit dealers against each other by providing competitor offers.
9. Negotiate with multiple dealerships until the best price has been obtained.
10. Once a final price has been agreed on deduct all additional savings including, trade-in value, special rebates, incentives, or cash-back offers.
11. Keep emotions under control, buying a new car can be exciting and stressful, but it is a decision that should be made with a clear, logical mind.
12. If at any point a new car shopper feels uncomfortable with a dealer leave, or request to work with a different sales person.
New car buyers can make the most of their buying experience. Simply put, new car buyers need to do their research before shopping. An educated buyer will have the information required to recognize the best deal offered. Second, the consumer must confirm they are negotiating for the exact vehicle they want. Third, if a dealership doesn't feel right, go elsewhere.
