February 21, 2014 (Press-News.org) Truck drivers to receive more training to reduce trucking accidents?
Trucking companies and their drivers are subject to many different regulations that officials hope help keeps roadways safer. Some rules are focused on the conditions of the vehicles that are being used by each fleet, and drivers can be penalized if they accumulate too many safety violations in a certain period of time.
One of the unique challenges facing the trucking industry concerns the lack of experienced drivers for available positions. Companies sometimes have to hire new drivers, and many of these individuals need time to develop the skills necessary to prevent incidents from occurring. The size of these vehicles can lead to a steep learning curve, potentially resulting in serious trucking accidents with other motorists.
Officials are taking a closer look at some of the training that these new hires receive. Many receive very little instruction about proper braking and turning distance. As a result, they are unaware of the danger their actions present for automobile drivers.
Members of Congress have started discussions regarding training guidelines that might be put in place in the future. It is believed that if minimum levels of instruction are mandatory, drivers will be able to learn how to handle some of the things that put car drivers in serious danger. The training may cover issues involving substance abuse, as well as the dangers of distracted driving.
The use of technology to reduce serious collisions may also be expanded to help reduce truck accidents, especially those caused by fatigued drivers. Certain devices could potentially be required in 18-wheelers, so that a warning would sound if a driver started to drift out of his or her lane. This is in addition to some of the crash-warning devices already being used by some trucks.
If you have been injured in a trucking accident, you may need a long time to recover from the crash. This could mean that you are out of work for a long time, and you may start to experience severe financial hardships due to your lack of income. Insurance companies may offer you a quick settlement for your claims, which could be very tempting if you need the money.
Before you make any decisions, you need to discuss all of your options with an experienced personal injury attorney. A truck accident attorney can help you evaluate your claim and explain the different types of compensation available. This will help you make an informed decision about what is best for you, and also help you understand the impact of accepting a settlement offer too soon.

Proposed New Jersey interlock law aims to prevent, rather than punish
New Jersey is known for having strict DWI laws, meant to protect people from being hurt and also to prevent drivers found guilty from drinking and driving again. While drunk driving laws are necessary, it can be difficult for someone who has multiple convictions to recover from such a mistake. There is a bill currently being considered in our state's legislature that would focus more on preventing repeat drunk drivers, rather than strongly punishing those who are convicted.
Currently, New Jersey ...
