Readers want to know how to find the best healthcare and new technology in their own backyard. Oklahoma has some of the finest cutting-edge doctors and wellness facilities in the country.

The cover featureof March/April ThriveOK Health magazine is the OKC Thunder Girls. These girls are fitness representatives around the world and we take a look at their training methods with trainer, Steve Clausen. Marie Osmond came to OKC in support of her favorite children's charity with Jenny Love Meyer of Love's Travel; Mayor Mick Cornett is rallying for another four years as Oklahoma City's mayor and David Brown's big family reveal after his transformation on the 15th season of NBC's Biggest Loser are just a few of the fun, relevant stories found in this new issue.
"We have featured stars that have shot through this state on a mission to help with awareness, strength and courage and to raise funds for illnesses that plague our state and the country." says Dr. Slovak. ThriveOK Health has displayed Dr. Oz on the cover when he visited the Sooner state for the first time to help raise funds for Harold Hamm Diabetes Center in 2012; Jamie Lee Curtis who recently spoke in downtown on strengthening the family unit and fighting addictions; Marie Osmond joined forces with Love's for a Children's Miracle Network luncheon just before Christmas last year and local country superstar, Toby Keith launched OK Kids Korral to house children as they undergo chemotherapy.
Access a free copy this month to find out about David Brown who recently appeared in the 15th season of NBC's Biggest Loser - weighed in at 409 pounds at the outset of the first show. At 6 feet, Brown hit the Biggest Loser Ranch having a Body Mass Index of 55.5 - dangerously obese. His ongoing battle with weight loss - a battle he's fought for over a decade - shows why shedding pounds doesn't always just come down to eating right and exercising frequently. Sometimes it involves emotional and spiritual healing, along the way.
Brown was on several different medications to treat various weight-related problems. The Biggest Loser's own physician, Dr. Robert Huizinga, has more than a passing familiarity with this scenario.
"First, I actually have to put his health situation in terms he will understand and remember - how many years of life he's giving up! Second, I have to give him hope. The medical journal articles on prior seasons of Biggest Loser contestants show that through an exercise-centric, fat-loss approach he can stay off all the medication," remarks Huizinga.
Other features on fitness besides David Brown's long journey to wellness include, Paige Hathaway showing how to achieve flat abs in the gym with trainers Bailey and Jeremy Minihan of Size & Shape Fitness of OKC, barre3 owner Andrea Mason shows how to work fitness in at your desk and Olympic wrestler and boxing champ, Danny Hodge of Perry, Oklahoma talks about staying fit for life.
