CHARLOTTE, NC, March 21, 2014 (Press-News.org) North Carolina Massage School announces the dates for SeniorSpa Parts 1 and 2 in April. Led by licensed massage therapist and teacher Sheila Alexander, the two-day course focuses on techniques to help geriatric clients benefit from massage. The classes, which are open to professional therapists or well-skilled beginners, offer up to 14 continuing education credits.
When asked about the instructor, a NC Massage School founder Kristie Hogan said, "We're excited about having Sheila on board for this event. Because she developed a massage program specifically for a retirement community, we believe she is the best therapist to present the SeniorSpa classes. She is down to earth, personable and hands-on. We know our students will receive excellent instruction from her."
SeniorSpa 1 will be held on Friday, April 18 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The introductory course teaches students how to identify the body type for seniors, techniques for dealing with seniors confined to hospital beds, chairs and wheelchairs and special considerations for skin and body health for older patients. It also touches on Alzheimer's disease and moist heat and aromatherapy use with seniors. After taking the class, students will be confident in their abilities to offer therapeutic massage to seniors in all stages of health.
Part 2 of the SeniorSpa session requires completion of Part 1 and is held on Saturday, April 19 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. It looks at special positioning techniques, back exfoliations and proper charting for seniors.
Registration for the courses is already open, and the $25 early registration discount is available until April 11. Registration for the two-day course is $300 total, with a $150 cost for the Friday-only option. Students can register through the NC Massage School website.
