CEBU, PHILIPPINES, April 08, 2014 (Press-News.org) According to Genesis--the first book of the Bible--God was satisfied with the Flood and promised never again to use the Flood. All that water had done its job. Though this seems to contradict thousands of years of human history, author Rod Martin, Jr. says that there is a simple solution detailed in his new book, The Bible's Hidden Wisdom: God's Reason for Noah's Flood. He says that God had wanted to solve one very specific kind of wickedness and violence.
"The recent Noah movie and biblical scholars have gotten it all wrong," said Martin. "For one thing, some parts of the Bible were never meant to be taken literally, but instead spiritually." He points to 2 Corinthians 3:6 as one passage which emphasizes that the letter, or literal, leads to death; only the spirit leads to life and truth. Martin continued, "Merely considering that the Bible might contain hidden wisdom evokes the very thing the Bible says we need--the Holy Spirit."
Martin's book details how this spiritual approach to the Bible revealed a timeline compatible with those of mainstream science. The timeline, through science, revealed the Flood's target--a species which the Bible calls the "daughters of men" and which went extinct at the new Flood date.
"There were many surprises," said Martin. "The alignment of the Flood with the extinction of a species which matches the description in Genesis 6--that was one of them. Another was the longevity of humanity. At first, it seemed too impossible to believe. But then I started to find evidence in the scientific literature that scientists have not been entirely honest with the evidence. That was a shock. One scientist even went so far as to say that he would not believe any evidence of a truly ancient date for humanity."
Quoting American author and journalist, James Gleick, Martin explained why such unscientific behavior can be so common. "In Gleick's bestselling book, Chaos: Making a New Science, he wrote, 'Shallow ideas can be assimilated; ideas that require people to reorganize their picture of the world provoke hostility.' I think Gleick was talking about ego, what Christ referred to as the urge to be first."
Martin spent more than a decade researching and writing the book. It was recently published as an eBook on Amazon Kindle, a trade paperback available at Amazon.com, and a hardcover available at Lulu.com.
"For a long time," said Martin, "I remained puzzled about the rift between science and religion. Then I realized that the solution could be as simple as a new interpretation based on clues found in the Bible. One of the first clues is found in Genesis 5:2--that Adam was both male and female and a 'them.' This let me know that the seemingly outrageous ages of the early patriarchs might be for tribes named for those patriarchs. As it turned out, the Methuselah tribe lived far longer than a few thousand years."
