GRAND RAPIDS, MI, April 19, 2014 (Press-News.org) The weather isn't the only thing that changes with a new season. Contemporary Family Dental Care has been under a slight construction and just recently revealed their new office!
"We're a growing practice, so we needed a little extra leg room. And there were other dental essentials we added to the new space. Our practice is fully equipped to handle any dental need that comes our way," says Dr. Dykstra, Grand Rapids dentist at Contemporary Family Dental Care.
General dental office areas include a waiting room, reception area, checkout, restrooms and so forth. However, Dr. Dykstra redesigned other key areas, such as the sterilization space, consultation room and Panorex X-ray room.
Some patients might feel nervous in the dentist office; thus, sitting in the dental chair during a consultation might be a little overwhelming. That's why there is a separate consultation room. Dr. Dykstra or an associate can walk patients through their treatment plans without any noise or distractions coming from other areas of the office.
Also, to stay out of the way of the hallway hustle and bustle, the new office made a private area for the new Panorex. What is a Panorex? It's a panoramic radiograph that scans the upper and lower jaw. A dental panoramic radiograph helps provide information on impacted wisdom teeth, periodontal bone loss, dental implant placement and a dental infection.
To see pictures of the new office, go to Dr. Dykstra's Facebook page-it's dedicated to the practice. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Dykstra and staff at his Grand Rapids dentist office, call (616) 726-1271. Access the appointment request form by going to www.contemporaryfamilydental.com.

Santa Cruz Dentist Wants Patients To Spring Into Action For Better Oral Health
2014-04-19
Many people will never experience a broken bone. It's a less common incident, which is why it's considered an emergency. The same can't be said for dental emergencies. Teeth and gums are put in harms way every day. The food and drinks people consume can produce bacteria and acid that are harmful to tooth enamel.
"People consider cavities a common dental problem, not an emergency. However, certain stages of tooth decay can be considered a major concern, especially if a tooth's structure is damaged due to severe dental decay. Ignoring dental hygiene practices at home ...
Kenosha Dentist Discusses How Age Factors Into A Successful Dental Implant
2014-04-19
In recent years, missing permanent teeth are more often being permanently replaced by dental implants-a type of restorative procedure. Unlike dentures and dental bridges, dental implants require a surgical incision into the gum tissue and jawbone, so a dentist can place the screw-like implant. This allows for the jawbone cells to attach to the implant, the process also known as osseointegration.
The advantages of a dental implant include permanence, esthetic appeal, comfort and convenience. A patient can treat it with care just like his/her natural teeth, and the jawbone ...

Counterfeit contraceptives found in South America
2014-04-19
A survey of emergency contraceptive pills in Peru found that 28 percent of the batches studied were either of substandard quality or falsified. Many pills released the active ingredient too slowly. Others had the wrong active ingredient. One batch had no active ingredient at all.
To detect the fake drugs, researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology developed a sophisticated approach using mass spectrometry to quickly assess suspected counterfeit drugs and then characterize their chemical composition. The study's results highlight a growing concern for women's ...

Flipping the switch
2014-04-18
Harvard researchers have succeeded in creating quantum switches that can be turned on and off using a single photon, a technological achievement that could pave the way for the creation of highly secure quantum networks.
Built from single atoms, the first-of-their-kind switches could one day be networked via fiber optic cables to form the backbone of a "quantum Internet" that allows for perfectly secure communications, said Professor of Physics Mikhail Lukin, who led a team consisting of graduate student Jeff Thompson and post-doctoral fellow Tobias Tiecke to construct ...
MRI, on a molecular scale
2014-04-18
For decades, scientists have used techniques like X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMR) to gain invaluable insight into the atomic structure of molecules, but such efforts have long been hampered by the fact that they demand large quantities of a specific molecule and often in ordered and crystalized form to be effective – making it all but impossible to peer into the structure of most molecules.
Harvard researchers, however, say those problems may soon be a thing of the past.
A team of scientists, led by Professor of Physics and of Applied ...
