HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, August 28, 2010 (Press-News.org) A survey carried out via a business networking site* has reinforced the different business stereotypes, with the image of a scruffy IT worker stuck in front of his computer screen all day and longing for his holiday appearing true!
The independent poll was in response to recent research from payday loans lender www.speed-e-loans.com ** which highlighted how 50% of their borrowers are white collar workers and professionals. The poll wanted to see just what an average professional would spend GBP250 on (this is the highest amount new speed-e-loans customers can borrow).
The results reinforced perceived business stereotypes:
- 100% of IT workers and consultants (who tend not interface with customers and so may not be so bothered about new clothes) said they'd go on holiday if they had GBP250 spare;
- This is in stark contrast to 100% of those in the image-conscious Business Development and Marketing professions - they'd spend the money on clothes.
Gary Miller-Cheevers from speed-e-loans commented: "The poll was done as a bit of fun to see just what our average professional would spend the equivalent of a payday loan on, but we were surprised just to see how correct business stereotypes are!"
As expected, nearly a third of all respondents (32%) would spend the money on a holiday while 31% would spend the money on a gadget.
Other stats:
- those in the 18-24 age group would spend the money both equally on gadgets and clothes;
- 100% of those aged 55+ would spend it on food and drink;
- of those who said they'd spend the money on something work-related (6%), they were all male and aged 35-54.
*Poll carried out on behalf of speed-e-loans for period 22.01.10-28.08.10 via business networking site LinkedIn.
**Research from speed-e-loans. Data for period 05.02.10 - 20.05.10 showed that that the top 3 borrower employment categories consisted of Office workers and Administration (23%); People employed in Management (14%) and Sales & Marketing (13% of all borrowers). The figures also showed that 7% of all borrowers are Solicitors, Accountants, Doctors or Financial Advisers.

Enforcement Change Leads to Surge in Drug Recalls
2010-08-28
Drug recalls soared by 300 percent to a record number of 1742 in 2009. One drug company--now defunct--accounted for over 1000 of those recalls, but the increase is still 50% over 2008. Although the marked increase has led some to speculate about a decline in product safety, according to pharmaceutical injury lawyers at The Cochran Firm, the difference is more likely an attitude shift toward increased enforcement than a sudden change in product safety.
Industry analysts cite a number of factors that led to the increase, including:
- Drug repackaging
- Rush to produce ...
Types of Tax Fraud

Tax fraud occurs when an individual or corporation enters into an illegal scheme to avoid paying taxes legally owed to the federal government. It is a serious problem which costs our government billions of dollars a year in tax revenue. In 2005, the U.S. government estimated that approximately $345 billion in tax revenue was not paid due to tax fraud. This accounted for approximately 14% of federal revenues.

What is Tax Fraud?
2010-08-28
While no one looks forward to paying taxes, the vast majority of people understand the purpose and importance of taxes. Without this revenue, our government would not have the funds to pay for important programs that benefit all citizens, such as:
- Medicare/Medicaid
- Social Security
- Repairs to infrastructure (roads, bridges, etc.)
- Public schools
- Military defense
- Law enforcement
In order to obtain the necessary revenue to fund these programs, the federal government has established certain guidelines regarding the amount of money individuals and corporations ...
Newer Employees Means More On-The-Job Injuries
2010-08-28
With the economy showing some signs of recovering, many companies have ended hiring freezes. While positive for the jobless, the influx of new workers into the corporate world often means an increase in on-the-job injuries - and increased workers' compensation costs for employers.
Harry Shuford, chief economist for the National Council on Compensation Insurance, noted, "When the rate of hiring increases, we see some upward pressure on injury rates and frequency."
Historically, higher injury rates occur among newer employees - often because they are more accident prone ...

The States' Battle to Take Back Immigration Reform From Uncle Sam
2010-08-28
The federal government has always maintained jurisdiction over the laws surrounding immigration. However, states around the country feel that the Obama Administration is not combating the problems associated with immigration and thus forcing them to pass their own laws. Numerous states have introduced bills, but Arizona is the first to take the lead at passing a real state-level immigration law. However, Arizona's attempts at passing their own law have hit a roadblock after a federal district court judge issued an injunction against the state's measures.
Arizona's Immigration ...
