NEW ORLEANS, LA, August 29, 2010 (Press-News.org) Five years ago, the residents of New Orleans watched as their city was engulfed in water, a helpless victim of the unforgiving, torrential rains from Hurricane Katrina. The levees broke and so did the hearts of millions of people, but Life+Gear, a company motivated by disasters like Katrina to innovate life-saving products, has committed to continual Katrina recovery and storm-safety awareness by sponsoring "Heroes of the Storm" and launching the website lifegear.com/prepare.

To honor the brave first responders of Hurricane Katrina, Life+Gear has announced that it will be a $10,000 sponsor of the Red Cross' "Heroes of the Storm Event." The event, hosted by the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter, is a fundraising gala that will honor all the First Responders and pay special tribute to LTG Russel L. Honore, USA (Ret) who mobilized the response that ultimately saved the city. It will be held August 28th at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.

In addition to honoring the heroes of Katrina and supporting recovery, Life+Gear is firmly committed to preparing and educating people for future storms, and to that end has launched lifegear.com/prepare. The website will feature storm information, news, safety and preparation tips, and storm-safety products including Life+Gear's GlowSticks and "Wings of Life."

"It is extremely important we take time to honor the miraculous and brave souls who made the victims of Hurricane Katrina their top priority," says Life+Gear President Dennis Bertken. "Our company strongly believes by launching lifegear.com/prepare we will provide not only valuable information but the resources needed to prevent unnecessary loss of life."
