HyProCure Procedure to Correct Talotarsal Dislocation and Flat Feet Problems Expands to Germany: Company Increasing Adoption Around the World
2011-01-11
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI, January 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) GraMedica has helped thousands of foot pain sufferers in the US with its innovative HyProCure titanium implant and out-patient procedure. Now, the company is pleased to announce that the product and surgical procedure has been adopted and performed in Germany.

The HyProCure implant corrects a common foot and ankle ailment called talotarsal dislocation syndrome. This abnormal motion of the ankle on the heel bone can cause devastating effects for patients, ranging from flat feet, heel spurs and plantar fasciitis, to bunions and hammer toes, leg and knee pain, hip and back problems, and even headaches.

"The operation and the post-op period are so far without complications," said Dr. Axel Schroth, the first surgeon to perform the procedure in Germany. "On the first post-op day, the patient did only standing exercises... [By] the fifth post-op week, the patient had a nice holiday at the Red Sea and did some scuba diving. After eight weeks, she returned to other sport activities like skiing and cycling... The patient is very contented so far." Schroth's 18-year-old patient received HyProCure for correction of a flatfoot deformity.

Podiatric surgeon Michael E. Graham developed the uniquely designed implant in the US to rebalance the ankle on the heel bone, putting the body back in alignment, and eliminating the resulting painful, and often debilitating, symptoms. HyProCure acts as a stent to keep open the naturally occurring space between the ankle and heel that balances a person's weight when they walk or stand. In those with talotarsal dislocation syndrome, that natural space is collapsed, causing the normal weight-distribution mechanisms of the body to malfunction. The minimally-invasive procedure is performed through a small incision in the ankle.

"Malaligned feet will not go away on their own. Orthotics, special shoes and other conventional forms of treatment do not address this condition at its root, and can often lead to other negative consequences," said Graham. "The HyProCure system delivers the only true cure for this condition and its symptoms and it offers a real life changing solution for many patients. We are thrilled to now offer HyProCure and its benefits to foot pain sufferers in Germany."

HyProCure is available in the U.S., Canada, throughout Europe and the Middle East and in New Zealand and South Africa, with adoption in other countries on the horizon. GraMedica, the company behind HyProCure, trains doctors all over the world through its proprietary online training system and through in-person surgical training seminars.

If you are suffering from foot, ankle, leg, knee and hip pain, or even flat feet, you may be experiencing the effects of talotarsal dislocation syndrome. Please visit www.hyprocure.com for more information about the symptoms and solutions and to locate a doctor near you. Podiatrists and other surgeons are invited to learn more about the HyProCure implant and procedure at www.hyprocuredoctors.com, where they can also train online or find a live surgical training seminar in their area.

Mayo researchers describe measles viral protein movement

2011-01-10

The findings appear in the current online issue of Nature Structural & Molecular Biology. A team led by Roberto Cattaneo, Ph.D., a Mayo molecular biologist, describes the crucial initial steps taken by attachment proteins of the measles virus and related respiratory viruses with their cellular partners, the receptors. To get there, the ...

Surprise: Dwarf galaxy harbors supermassive black hole

2011-01-10
The surprising discovery of a supermassive black hole in a small nearby galaxy has given astronomers a tantalizing look at how black holes and galaxies may have grown in the early history of the Universe. Finding a black hole a million times more massive than the Sun in a star-forming dwarf galaxy is a strong indication that supermassive black holes formed before the buildup of galaxies, the astronomers said. The galaxy, called Henize 2-10, 30 million light-years from Earth, has been studied for years, and is forming stars very rapidly. Irregularly shaped and about 3,000 ...

Ginger is key ingredient in recipe for conserving stag beetles
2011-01-10
The humble ginger root could be the key to conserving the UK's largest and most spectacular terrestrial beetle – the stag beetle. Ecologists from Royal Holloway, University of London and the University of York have developed a series of new methods to monitor stag beetle numbers – including ginger lures to trap adult beetles and tiny microphones to detect sounds made by the larvae in their underground nests. Conservation efforts have been hampered until now because ecologists lacked a reliable way of monitoring stag beetle numbers. The new research, published in the Royal ...
