WAVERLY, TN, September 03, 2010 (Press-News.org) The American Cancer Society continues to attack electronic cigarettes and falsely label them as dangerous and ineffective, while the number of people using the products is increasing by 20,000 to 30,000 a week. Despite the ACS's claims, e cigarette reviews by consumers are still flooding in all over the Internet that smokers who are switching to e cigarettes and e liquid are breathing, tasting, and sleeping better than they ever did while smoking traditional cigarettes.
By penning their own legislation and bringing it before state lawmakers, the ACS and multiple other agencies are currently trying to make a case for the outright banning of the e cigarette on a state level nationwide while not actively attempting to have cigarettes restricted from retail stores where they are easily visible by youth. The ACS has made it clear in its presentation on state regulation of e cigarettes that they do not want safety regulations on the products; they simply want them banned as a whole.
Regardless of the fact that statistics show that most smokers who quit "cold turkey" do not resume smoking and that 95% of nicotine replacement therapy (nicotine gums and patches) users only quit for a short period of time, the American Cancer Society refuses to state anything other than pharmaceutical company products are the "safe and effective" way to stop smoking. They also refuse to acknowledge that the majority of their operations funds comes from contributions from pharmaceutical companies.
In a society that has always told smokers to "quit or die", people who use e cigarettes have finally found some relief and no longer feel ostracized by family and friends. The ACS and FDA pushing for the products to be pulled off the market, however, is fanning a fire that is growing by the day, as smokers who have switched to e cigarettes will be all but forced by the establishment to go back to their old ways. This means spending hundreds of dollars (in some cases, the equivalent of rent) on an addiction that is touted as one of the most difficult on the planet to overcome.
E-smokers remain a growing population in the United States and worldwide, despite efforts by generously funded special interest groups to squash the only legitimate smoking alternative currently on the market.
