Lakeville Orthodontics Office IDs Problems to Look For in Growing Children

The Lakeville orthodontics office of Cosmopolitan Orthodontics has released a list of problems to be on the lookout for in growing children.

2011-01-12
LAKEVILLE, MN, January 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) For years, Cosmopolitan Orthodontics, a Lakeville orthodontics office owned by Lakeville invisible braces provider Dr. Jennifer Eisenhuth, has promoted the importance of having children evaluated by age 7.

Now Dr. Trudy Bonvino, a Lakeville orthodontist who is Cosmopolitan's orthodontist on staff, has shared some information provided by the American Association of Orthodontists on the reasons why.

First, some of the problems parents should watch for:
- Mouth breathing
- Finger or thumb sucking
- Use of a pacifier past age 2
- Crowding
- Crossbite
- Spacing issues
- Underbite/overbite
- Open bite
- Protrusion
- Early/late loss of baby teeth
- Speech difficulties
- Facial imbalance
- Teeth clenching/grinding
- Jaws that shift/make noises

Any of these habits and conditions have the potential to create future orthodontic problems if not identified and corrected early, says Bonvino, a Lakeville braces specialist.

There are additional reasons for early evaluation. Orthodontists such as Bonvino, Lakeville Invisalign provider, can identify problems regarding emerging teeth and jaw growth while some baby teeth remain, according to the AAO.

Identifying a problem early means it can be treated early if needed. That can keep more serious problems from developing and in some cases, allow the Lakeville orthodontists at Cosmopolitan to correct problems that are best corrected when the face and jaws still are growing.

Early treatment also enables orthodontists to guide permanent teeth into optimum position early-on, correct poor oral habits, reduce the risk of trauma to the front teeth, guide jaw growth and improve the relationship between a child's lips, face and teeth.
