The Surrogacy Lawyer Radio Program Discusses Infertility Advocacy on January 20th Episode

"Never underestimate the difference ordinary citizens can make in the lives of millions," says Surrogacy Lawyer Erickson.

SAN DIEGO, CA, January 20, 2011

Even though infertility treatment is a medical condition affecting seven million men and women in the United States, the infertility patient community has learned through experience that its right to receive treatment for it should not be taken for granted. The field is facing a variety of issues such as bans on donor compensation, personhood amendments, the documentary Eggsploitation, and a health insurance lobby not wanting to pay for infertility treatment.

So who is advocating for the infertility patient and what lessons can we learn from these efforts? These are two of the questions to be addressed on the January 20 episode of The Surrogacy Lawyer: Your Guide to IVF and Third Party Family Building, when Theresa Erickson, Esq., interviews Kelly Damron and Lee Rubin Collins about their involvement as RESOLVE volunteers and infertility advocates. The show will air on Thursday, January 20 at 11AM PST/2PM EST on Voice America.

As the result of her own experience battling infertility, Kelly Damron became an active RESOLVE volunteer, ultimately becoming one of the leaders of a successful grassroots campaign in Arizona to defeat legislation banning egg donor compensation. Ms. Damron published her first book, Tiny Toes: A Couple's Journey Through Infertility, Prematurity, and Depression, in November 2007. For Lee Rubin Collins, the experience of secondary infertility became a turning point, motivating her to leave law practice and devote herself instead to the cause of infertility awareness and advocacy. Lee is a board member of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and the Jones Institute Foundation, and been passionate about promoting RESOLVE's mission to expand insurance coverage for infertility and about protecting infertility patients from the threats posed by extremist legislation like the personhood movement to restrict IVF.

"Never underestimate the difference ordinary citizens can make in the lives of millions," says Erickson. "Through Kelly Damron and Lee Rubin Collins, we have the examples of two extraordinary women who are advancing infertility causes about which they passionately care and which will benefit the one in six couples suffering from this medical condition. I'm looking forward to discussing all the issues about which the infertility community and field should be aware."
