After two appearances on ABC's World News Now on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, Antoinette Montague swings back into two of her favorite rooms as she returns to Jazz at the Kitano, located in Manhattan's premier luxury Japanese hotel for a Valentine's Weekend love & romance infused set. Then she soars upstate to a triumphant return to the Central New York Jazz Arts series in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Syracuse University.
To understand the electrifying impact Antoinette has on audiences, just read what Larry Luttenger, of the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation has to say:
"Packed house, standing ovation, multiple encores -- after a night like that it's the law -- your guest has to return for more. We had no alternative but to invite our 2010 cabaret artist -- the pride of Newark NJ, the incomparable, bluesy, swinging Antoinette Montague -- back once again to present an all new show for us this February.
"If you want to travel to the Big Apple in search of a civilized night out, you'll be able to find such cabaret rooms and supper clubs offering all this under one roof -- but be prepared to spend hundreds of dollars. Or, for a tiny fraction of the price of such a junket to Manhattan, you could attend our cabaret.
"Once again, Brackens Financial Solutions Network makes it possible for us to bring this bonafide blues and jazz legend to Syracuse for our annual celebration. Think Etta Jones -- only sassier! For new patrons, note that affordable food stations and cash bar are available once inside. Also note our new location, the elegant Sheraton Syracuse University, with plenty of parking! Miss it and you'll regret it."
Born and raised in Newark, Antoinette Montague was drawn to the music by her mother who was always singing and sounded like Ella Fitzgerald. Montague's interest was further jumpstarted by her dad. "On Saturdays my dad would drop me off at the Newark Public Library on his way to work. There I would listen to Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington." Years later Montague met up with the renowned Etta Jones, who became her mentor. "She encouraged me when others were being uncool. She would say, 'I hear it Annie. It is coming along, and it's going to be wonderful. Not everybody wants you to sing like they did me. Keep doing it and don't quit, or I will come back and haunt you.'"
Montague released her first CD, Pretty Blues, in 2006 featuring pianist Mulgrew Miller, saxophonist Bill Easley, drummer Kenny Washington, and bassist Peter Washington--the same group of influential jazz players featured on the new release Behind The Smile. Montague has appeared on the cover of Jazz Improv NY Magazine and on two book covers of Who's Who in Jazz, Cabaret and Music. She has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Jazzmobile's Summer Breeze Concert Series, Zebra Room in Harlem's famous Lenox Lounge, the Blue Note, Jazz Standard and more.
Antoinette's album, Behind The Smile features a diverse repertoire of standards and originals including "What's Going On," "The Song Is You," "Get Ready," "Somewhere In The Night" as well the vocalist / composer's original title song "Behind The Smile". At the upcoming Jazz Vespers performance listeners get to hear Montague tap into her extensive repertoire and distinctive renditions of "What The World Needs Now," "Creole Love Call," "Rough and Ready Man," "Let the Good Times Roll," "God Bless the Child," "On The Street Where You Live," "Lady Be Good," "I Let A Song Go Out of My Heart," Duke Ellington's "I Didn't Know About You," "East Of the Sun," "I'll Be Seeing You," "Swing It Brother Swing," "Smack Dab In The Middle," Mose Allison's, "If You've Got Questions Ask Me Nice", Stevie Wonder's, "Ribbon In the Sky" and others.

Leading U.S. Canopy Company Increases Outdoor Canopy Production for 2011 Hurricane Season
2011-01-30
A study by Colorado State University is predicting an above average hurricane season for 2011. In the wake of this information, the leading U.S canopy supplier is increasing their canopy production by twenty percent. The canopies are used as emergency shelter in the aftermath of the storms.
When natural disasters occur, and unfortunately they seem to occur far too often, one of the first things needed on those sites is some sort of weather protection. For first responders, as well as for those they are trying to help, there needs to be areas that are relatively free ...
Boilerplate Waivers No Longer Enough to Keep Ski Resorts Safe From Injury Claims?
2011-01-30
Like others around the country, some Colorado ski resorts are on the defensive before this year's winter sports season gets underway. There have been a spate of lawsuits against ski resorts in recent years by patrons who were injured on the slopes while skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling in spite of the fact that boilerplate waivers appear on the back of nearly every single ski lift pass printed in the country.
The resorts argue that these fine-print waivers protect them from liability, but some courts have seen things differently. Several noteworthy personal injury ...
Sleep Deprivation and Patient Safety
2011-01-30
According to the Society of Actuaries, medical mistakes cost the U.S. economy over $19.5 billion in 2008. During that year, the report estimates that medical mistakes caused over 1.5 million injuries, resulting in 2,500 estimated deaths. Though the causes for mistakes vary, doctor fatigue has often been cited as a major factor in medical errors.
In a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the authors cite studies which show an increased risk of complications for patients who undergo elective procedures performed by a sleep-deprived doctor. ...

2011-01-30
In 2010, more than 1.5 million Americans filed for bankruptcy protection- a 9% increase over the previous year and the highest rate of filings since the new bankruptcy laws went into effect in 2005. While the states with the highest rates of bankruptcy remained in the Southwestern and Southeastern parts of the country, states in the Northeast still saw increases in the number of bankruptcy filings in 2010. For example, in Rhode Island more than 4,100 people filed for consumer bankruptcy protection last year and Massachusetts added another 17,700 filers.

Preserving the Principles of Fair Trial in a 24/7 Video World
2011-01-30
Aldous Huxley spoke of a "brave new world," Marshall McLuhan said "the medium is the message," and Orwell of course warned of Big Brother. For all their insights, however, none of these twentieth-century thinkers -- not even Orwell -- remotely anticipated the advent of the 24/7 video technology that permeates our culture today. We are awash in images that, without the proper safeguards, threaten to undermine long-held principles at the foundation of the criminal justice system.

At an international tax symposium in December, Shulman also stated that the agency is "seriously considering" another amnesty period for people with undeclared offshore accounts to voluntarily come forward.
Targeting Offshore Accounts
Following the IRS's investigation of Swiss banking giant UBS, Shulman reported that the agency will continue to fight tax evasion by addressing instances of offshore tax evasion and "leveraging the data we receive to mount ...
