Environmental Illness -- Author Faye Hueston Explains What You Do When Your Body Begins To Collapse And Your Doctors Can't Explain Why?

Author Faye Hueston discusses her battle against environmental illness and search for a cure in her new book "Silent Enemy."

CARY, NC, February 17, 2011

Environmental illness has affected many people since the boom of the chemical industry during the outbreak of World War II. In 1930, global chemical production totaled one million tons. Today more than 400 million tons of chemicals are manufactured annually, and more than 86,000 chemicals are registered with the EPA for use in everything from diet cherry cola to cockroach bait.

Environmental illness is a result of the many of the chemicals around us that have been developed without much thought given to public or environmental safety. The scientists who design chemicals are rarely trained in either public health or environmental science. It is only after a chemical is developed and set loose upon the environment that its long term effects are studied -- often after extracting heavy tolls in terms of human health and life.

Environmental illness affected author Faye Hueston some years ago in London when she fell victim to a mysterious health problem. A battery of doctors was unable to find any reason for her strange and debilitating symptoms, and dismissed her complaints as psychosomatic.

After years of wrong diagnoses and declining health, a clinical ecology doctor finally identified Hueston's condition - an environmental illness caused by a collapsed immune system due to exposure to pesticides.

Her book "Silent Enemy" refers to the environmental illness brought upon the chemicals that are polluting not only our bodies but the earth's fragile ecosystem. Based on the diaries Hueston kept during her years of declining health, the book chronicles her experience of pesticide poisoning, the long, discouraging search for a cure and the nutrition therapy that finally saved her life.

"As invasive chemicals multiply with frightening complexity in the world, they bring new and graver challenges for human health and survival," says Hueston. "My hope in writing this book is to help others avoid environmental illness, suffering and wasted years I experienced trying to resolve the many unexpected and confusing symptoms brought about through exposure to toxic chemicals."
