BERKELEY, CA, March 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc. (CARD), will host "Autism Treatment Insurance Funding Workshop" for parents of children with autism. The free workshop will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 11:30am-1:30pm at Civic Community Center, located at 1375 Civic Drive in
Walnut Creek, CA 94596.
"This presentation will give parents of children with autism valuable and up-to-date information on insurance funding for autism treatment," says Meghan Nollet, CARD Berkeley Managing Supervisor. "This seminar provides the answers on what insurance companies will and will not cover as well as effective strategies to maximize insurance benefits."
Autism insurance reform laws have been enacted by 23 states. California is one of nine states with autism insurance reform bills pending introduction or endorsement.
Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder that is marked by the presence of impaired social interaction and communication in addition to a restricted repertoire of activities and interests. According to the Centers for Disease Control Prevention, one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism in America, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. An estimated 1.5 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide are affected by autism.
