TAMPA, FL, March 06, 2011

DIG Coaching Practice presents Attention Talk Radio with host, Jeff Copper, and Dr. Russell Barkley on the importance of emotion in understanding and managing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Medical papers dating back to 1798 always included emotion in the conceptualization of ADHD and continued up to the 1970 Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 2nd Edition (DSM-II). Since then, emotional dysregulation has been excluded from the clinical conceptualization of the condition. In this discussion, Dr. Barkley will present his argument on why emotion needs to be returned to a central place in ADHD.

Dr. Russell Barkley is a world-renowned authority on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Having spent his entire professional career studying ADHD and its diagnosis, assessment, and management, he has received numerous citations for excellence in his research and opinions on ADHD and is highly esteemed by other professionals in his field. Dr. Barkley has written extensively on various treatments for ADHD that do not have a sound scientific basis or that have been disproven in research, such as diet or nutrition, sensory integration, chiropractic, and cognitive-behavioral training for children with ADHD, among others. He received his Ph.D. in 1977 in clinical psychology at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, receiving the Distinguished Dissertation Award for his research on the effects of medication on children with ADHD. His expertise has garnered many awards for his work in ADHD and the field of psychology.

He is the author of numerous books, including titles such as Your Defiant Teen: 10 Steps to Resolve Conflict and Rebuild Your Relationship; Your Defiant Child: Eight Steps to Better Behavior; Taking Charge of ADHD, Revised Edition: The Complete, Authoritative Guide for Parents; ADHD and the Nature of Self-Control, and Defiant Teens: A Clinician's Manual for Assessment and Family Intervention. His latest book, Taking Charge of Adult ADHD (New York, Guilford Publications), was released in August 2010 and is available from the publisher, any major bookseller, and on his website at http://www.russelbarkley.org, where his many other publications are also available, along with his complete professional profile and impressive credentials.
