"Black Swan" Violinist to Perform with The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle

Tim Fain Featured Soloist at March 13 Concert

2011-03-09
CHAPEL HILL, NC, March 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (www.thecot.org) announces today that violinist Tim Fain will be the featured soloist at its March 13 concert. Fain recently appeared in the critically acclaimed film "Black Swan," as the accompanying violinist for Natalie Portman. This continues his cinemagraphic work, which includes performing as the "voice" of Richard Gere's violin in the feature film "Bee Season."

A California native, Fain is the recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Young Concert Artists International Award. He was also selected as one of Symphony magazine's 2006 "Up-and-Coming Musicians" and Strad magazine's 2007 "Pick of Up and Coming Musicians." This is his second time performing with The COT.

"It has been wonderful to see Tim's career literally take off these past few years, but not surprising," says Lorenzo Muti, COT artistic director and conductor. "He is a solid musician with a beautiful personality, and he communicates with his audiences very easily."
The all-Beethoven concert—titled Who's Afraid of Beethoven?—will consist of Fain as soloist in a performance of "Violin Concerto in D major, op. 6. In addition, the orchestra will perform "Konig Stefan Overture no. 117" and "Symphony no. 6 - Pastorale."

"It is a pleasure to return for a performance with The COT," says Fain. "Lorenzo has assembled a wonderfully diverse mix of talented musicians, and I am thrilled to share the stage with them once again."

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre of Durham, 309 West Morgan Street, Durham, N.C. 27701. Tickets may be purchased at the box office or by calling 919.560.3030. Students are admitted free of charge with their ID card.

Building on its commitment to engaging young people with great classical music, the orchestra will feature a pre-concert performance by students from the Durham-based nonprofit KidZNotes (www.kidznotes.org). The organization promotes classical, orchestral music training for children in central and east Durham. Students ranging from kindergarten through third grade will perform in the Carolina Theatre lobby beginning at 2:30 p.m.

About KidzNotes:
KidZNotes provides instruments and music instruction five days a week for students in three Durham Title-1 schools: Eastway Elementary, Y.E. Smith Elementary and E.K. Powe Elementary. On Saturdays these schools come together as an orchestra of 60 students, 45 pre-K and kindergarten and 15 third-grade students. The gap between kindergarten and third grade allows for third graders to act as teachers and mentors in the class room, establishing in early childhood the principles of leadership and teamwork. KidZNotes intends to expand to additional schools next year and offer the orchestra program through high-school.

KidZNotes launched in September 2010 with the support and partnership of the office of the Vice Provost for the Arts at Duke University, Durham's Partnership for Children, Durham Public Schools, Kindermusik International and the East Durham Children's Initiative. KidZNotes is inspired by El Sistema, the social-reform orchestra program for children and families in poverty in Venezuela. Visit http://www.kidznotes.org for more information.
