Virginia Women's Center Releases First of 11 Women's Health Web Videos

Throughout 2011, the Richmond-based medical practice will disseminate its Focus on Health web video series to provide women's health information to patients.

2011-03-11
RICHMOND, VA, March 11, 2011 (Press-News.org) In a time when medical patients do the majority of their preliminary research online prior to visiting their doctors, one Richmond area medical practice, Virginia Women's Center, is releasing a series of educational online videos to provide accurate information on the World Wide Web. Virginia Women's Center, a trusted resource for total women's health care to over 60,000 women in the Richmond metro area, will launch a Focus on Health video on its website and YouTube channel each month in 2011 to keep patients informed and engaged on a variety of women's health care frequently asked questions (FAQs), answered by the practice's providers.

"Many of our patients come to their appointments after having researched their symptoms on Yahoo! Answers and WebMD," said Brenda Burgess, Virginia Women's Center's practice administrator. "Many have bookmarked the information on their Smartphones. And it's great—we find this prepares them to ask better questions and play a more active role in their health care. But every patient has a unique medical history, so it's often difficult to find exact answers online, and sometimes the best information is in doctor-speak, which can lead patients to worry when they simply don't understand."

In the first video of the series, which is already online, Dr. Rodrick Love discusses the common concerns and benefits of the risk-free and non-invasive first trimester prenatal screening test. Dr. Love is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Virginia Women's Center and has contributed a great deal to the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology. This video, along with the others that will be produced this year by the Richmond-based marketing and new media firm Madison+Main, is aimed at helping women better understand the prenatal testing options they will encounter throughout their pregnancy.

"In the future, Virginia Women's Center will produce more videos to cover subjects that align with the practice's other service lines," explained Burgess. "Topics will include gynecologic procedures, urology, mammography, bone health, psychology and nutrition."

The Focus on Health video series will be posted to VirginiaWomensCenter.com as well as the practice's YouTube channel. Virginia Women's Center is already a trusted resource online, with a social community of over 1,700 Facebook fans and 400 Twitter followers.
