UCSD-Extension Dedicates Business Basics Workshop Series to Translators this Spring

SANTEE, CA, March 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) The University of California, San Diego Extension (http://extension.ucsd.edu) will be offering this Summer 2011 a workshop series targeted at translators. "Business Basics" is intended to introduce current or aspiring translators to the business, financial, and marketing side of this profession.

Two of the workshop sessions this year will be presented by Rafa Lombardino, director of Word Awareness, Inc. (http://wordawareness.com), a network of professional translators established in Southern California.

On April 16, 2011 "Tackling the Job Search" (http://bit.ly/ucsdbb-job-spring2011) will help participants to put together an effective resume and cover letter template to apply for translation assignments on line. They will also be introduced to the job board environment, become familiar with translation sample requests, and brainstorm ideas on electronic and hard-copy marketing materials they may use in their job search.

On May 21, 2011 "Money Matters" (http://bit.ly/ucsdbb-money-spring2011) will introduce the ups and downs of becoming a freelance translator and being in charge of your own small business. Accounting, taxes, insurance, and how to set your rates are among the topics of discussion.

This workshop series will not only complement the English & Spanish Translation and Interpreting Program currently offered by the UCSD Extension, but it will also be open to other well-established or aspiring professionals who work with different language combinations. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP PRESENTER
A native Brazilian certified in English into Portuguese translations by the American Translators Association (ATA), Ms. Lombardino is also a UCSD Extension alumnus, having a professional certificate in English & Spanish Translation and Interpreting, and now teaches a 10-week on-line class called Tools & Technology in Translation (http://bit.ly/ucsd-ttt), which is part of the certificate program.

Ms. Lombardino has been working as a professional translator since 1997 and has three years of experience as an English as a Second Language and Computer Skills instructor. She specializes in Technology (Associate Degree in Computer Sciences, emphasis in Data Processing) and Communications (Bachelor of Arts in Social Communications, Major in Journalism).
