2011-03-24
ST. CHARLES, MO, March 24, 2011 (Press-News.org) The single-owner lifetime collection of Bill and Sue (Carolyn) Frick of Missouri - comprising over 500 lots of quality art glass and more - will be sold on Saturday, April 30, in the junior ballroom of the St. Charles Convention Center, starting at 9:30 a.m. (CST). The sale will be conducted by Woody Auction, headquartered in Douglass, Kan.

"I've had the pleasure of getting to know the Fricks, as they've attended many of our auctions over the years," said Jason Woody of Woody Auction. "Now, they have determined it is time to offer their collection at public auction without reserve. Everything will sell, regardless of price. It is evident that Sue, especially, enjoyed collecting certain styles and colors of antiques."

Tiffany pieces will include a rare 18-inch unmarked jack-in-the-pulpit vase with white, green and gold iridescent pulled feather design and 8 ¾ inch diameter face; and an 8 ¼ inch decorated art glass vase with green background and gold heart and vine decor. The base has a fake "LCT" mark and the original paper label. Overall, it has nice color and is in good condition.

Fans of brides' baskets will not be disappointed. Examples will include a 10 inch by 14 inch pink cased melon-ribbed bowl with large enamel floral decor set on a Meriden figural silverplate frame with double rampart lions; and a 14 ¼ inch by 8 ½ inch strong cranberry glass bowl with dentil style edge, enamel highlights, and set on a Simpson Hall & Miller figural stand.

Another brides' basket worth mentioning is a beautiful 14 ½ inch by 10 ½ inch pink satin herringbone bowl with crimped ruffled top, set on an ornate base with three cherubs. Also slated to change hands is a 12 ¾ inch Stevens and Williams cased peachblow-handled pitcher with applied amber feet and handle and applied floral decor. The pitcher is in very nice condition.

The Fricks were also collectors of Daum Nancy. Two pieces of note include a four-piece signed tab-handle Four Seasons miniature salt dip set, each salt dip measuring 1 ¾ inches and featuring a different scene for the various seasons; and a 13 ½ inch signed three-color cameo cut vase with white, orange and dark green tones and a nice mountain, lake and forest scenic decor.

Bidders will have plenty of wonderful vases to choose from the Frick's collection, such as the 12 ½ inch signed Galle French cameo four-color trumpet vase with peach, white, blue and green tones and great tall tree scenic decor; and a 4 inch by 4 inch Quezal decorated art glass vase with a gorgeous design of cream, bronze, green and gold iridescent swirl. It's a great piece.

Continuing with vases, two other lots expected to generate much bidder interest are a rare 10-inch pink agata glass Morgan vase set on an amber resin griffin base and boasting strong amber highlights; and a very nice 3 inch by 5 inch Webb English cameo vase with blue background and white floral decor.

Rounding out just some of the day's expected top lots, paddles will be wagging for an 11 ½ inch pickle castor condiment set with deep cranberry coinspot insert and cranberry coinspot ball-shaped salt and pepper shakers, all set on an elaborate aurora silverplate frame; and a 13 ¾ inch R.S. Steeple Mold #7 tankard, white and blue with iridescent bronze and pale blue bands.

Internet bidding will be facilitated by Proxibid (www.proxibid.com/woodyauction). All Proxibid terms and conditions will apply. Absentee bids will be accepted with a written statement indicating the amount of the bid. These must be received no later than noon Thursday, April 28th. Absentee bids may be fax'd (316-747-2145) or e-mailed (info@woodyauction.com).
