CHARLOTTE, NC, March 28, 2011 (Press-News.org) Established in 1984, Bateman Family Dental, sedation dentistry in Charlotte, shows their commitment to their patients through alternative solutions for affordable dental health care. As the healthcare debate rages nationally, this Charlotte dentist has decided to do something tangible to help individuals and families afford quality dental care.
"Statistically speaking, more than 60% of Americans don't have dental insurance," said Dr. Richard Bateman, Charlotte cosmetic dentist, from his dental practice on Park Cedar Drive in south Charlotte. "This means that a large majority of people delay a dental procedure which is not good for dental health or overall healthcare." A recent report by CBS News indicated dental decay as a contributing factor in many seemingly unrelated health problems including heart disease, infection as well as school and work absences.
The answer to this growing problem is a program called Quality Dental Plan that founder Dr. Dan Marut helped develop with other dentists across the country. This program is both simple and ingenious, which may prove to be a model for healthcare reform across the board. Dr. Marut stated, "Numbers don't lie and we found that we could create a system where families could get earlier preventative and less expensive dental care."
In addition, Dr. Bateman, dentist in Charlotte, NC, recently calculated how many hundreds of extra dollars families were spending by not catching potential problems that could have been found during a simple annual dental exam. As a result, this dentist in Charlotte contacted the Quality Dental Plan to assist their patients by offering a low-cost alternative to dental insurance.
"This one simple step has allowed us to eliminate the insurance company as middle man. Those savings are going right back into the pockets of our patients locally. I'm really proud to be part of this cost-saving movement. This is a great system for dental care everywhere," stated Dr. Bateman, cosmetic dentist in Charlotte.
Patients can now afford an array of procedures such as Charlotte veneers, Invisalign, crowns, and sedation dentistry. For more information about Quality Dental Plan, go to www.qualitydentalplan.com. Research shows not only the fittest survive
2011-03-28
Darwin's notion that only the fittest survive has been called into question by new research published today (27 March 2011) in Nature.
A collaboration between the Universities of Exeter and Bath in the UK, with a group from San Diego State University in the US, challenges our current understanding of evolution by showing that biodiversity may evolve where previously thought impossible.
The work represents a new approach to studying evolution that may eventually lead to a better understanding of the diversity of bacteria that cause human diseases.

The gene processes that drive acute myeloid leukaemia
2011-03-28
Researchers have described how the most common gene mutation found in acute myeloid leukaemia starts the process of cancer development and how it can cooperate with a well-defined group of other mutations to cause full-blown leukaemia.
The researchers suggest that three critical steps are required to transform normal blood cells into leukaemic ones, each subverting a different cellular process. By charting the route towards cancer, the study identifies processes that might serve as targets for new treatments to halt the cancer's development in its tracks and even reverse ...

Advanced technology reveals activity of single neurons during seizures

The investigation by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brown University researchers also observed pre-seizure changes in neuronal activity both in the cells where seizures originate and in nearby cells. The report will appear in Nature Neuroscience and is receiving advance online publication.

Viral replicase points to potential cancer therapy
2011-03-28
Alpha viruses, such as Sindbis virus, carry their genetic information on a single strand of RNA. On infection they use a protein, replicase, to produce double stranded RNA (dsRNA) which is used as genetic material to make more viruses. However the body recognizes dsRNA as foreign, and infected cells initiate an immune response. New research published in BioMed Central's open access journal BMC Cancer demonstrates that an artificial plasmid coding for the replicase genes of Sindbis virus causes regression and destruction of lung cancer, or melanoma, cells in mice.
