Seventeenth Annual Asian Festival Celebrates New Week Long Activities In May 2011
COLUMBUS, OH, April 02, 2011
• Dragon Boat Race on May 21st, in Genoa Park, 9:00am - 2:00pmThe Ancient Sport of Dragon Boat Races once again graces the Scioto River.
This is a chance to see the 40-foot canoe type boats paddled to the beat of a drum.
Four teams with 20 paddlers each will learn to work in unison and compete against each other through out the day. Families can also enjoy exhibits, dragon and lion dancing, workshops on taiko drumming, bamboo dancing, taichi and yoga.
• A Culinary Adventure To Asia - May 22nd & 24th
Franklin Park Community Gardens host a Culinary Demo of Asian cuisine.
On May 22nd - learn Japanese home-style cooking. May 24th treat yourself to Filipino dishes. Participants with not only learn how to cook these nutritious meals, but enjoy the dinner they make.

From ancient customs and cultures to new traditions, experience Asia without leaving
Columbus. Franklin Park hosts the 17th Annual Asian Festival over Memorial Weekend.
Thousands of people from Central Ohio and the Midwest attend the largest Asian Festival gathering on Saturday, May 28th, 10:00am -9:00 pm and Sunday, May 29th, 11:00am - 7:00pm.
The 2011 Asian Festival features cultural displays and artist demonstrations, delicious food, Health and Wellness screenings and children's activities. You can also shop in the Market place and 16 different countries will have a cultural booth display showcasing richness and cultural traditions in the multipurpose center.
Local and World Class performers will entertain the crowds at the different stages in the Park... including a stage dedicated to Martial Arts. This year the Festival welcomes "Fiesta Filipina" a Toronto based dance troupe and "Aharen Honryu" a Japanese dance company as the focus performers.
"The Asian Festival continues to work on Going Green." The festival encourages its food vendors to use disposable plates that are biodegradable and use recycle bins. A
Solar and Wind power trailer will be onsite to promote renewable energy.
