FORT WAYNE, IN, April 02, 2011 (Press-News.org) The world's only surgery-based soap opera podcast "As the Scalpel Slices" heats up as the new site Funny Surgery Stories attracts a huge fan base of medical workers.
FunnySurgeryStories.com just launched in mid-March and has already become the premier place for fun, laughs and drama from the operating room. With the slogan "Love and Laughs, Life and Death in the OR," the website's three-minute medical soap opera podcast "As the Scalpel Slices" is an original weekly podcast written by a top movie and television comedy writer.
Funny Surgery Stories visitors vote every week on the next week's storyline. The podcast is recorded in Nashville and the "star" is Kiki the nursing student. Supporting cast members include supervisor Marge, orderly Joey, scrub nurse Brigitte, attending surgeon Dr. Brown and chief resident Noah.
Funny Surgery Stories creator Julie Ryan, who holds numerous patents of surgical devices, said she wants her new funny hospital site to be a safe and inspiring place for operating room professionals to enjoy and share funny work stories.
FunnySurgeryStories.com also has an area called "OR Funnies, " which allows visitors to upload funny video stories about their surgery experiences. In the "Witless Protection Program ," visitors can share written stories about funny events taking place in the operating rooms. Stories are voted on by "scalpels," and prizes are given to members who upload funny surgery stories that receive the highest rating, five scalpels.
A new Witless Protection Program funny surgery story:
"In the OR we know that the last sense to go is hearing. We call our instrument containers caskets. A patient was on the table being put to sleep and the scrub called to the nurse to open the casket. The patient heard this and was telling the story in PACU. She thought she had died."
Ryan, based in Birmingham, Ala., said that the funny medical site is completely HIPAA-compliant and all stories and videos are reviewed prior to posting.
FunnySurgeryStories.com membership is free. Funny Surgery Stories is on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/funnysurgerystories and Twitter @funsurgstories.
