The big day is rapidly approaching, and you're more than a little stressed about how you're going to look in that spectacular in that costly wedding dress. According top fitness trainer and OC Boot Camp Founder Rod Edmondson, there are 10 mistakes that women routinely make to unintentionally sabotage their fitness goals.1. Start by starving yourself! Drastically reducing your caloric intake is tempting, but don't do it! It not only depletes essential vitamins and minerals from your body, but also slows your metabolism and prompts your body to cannibalize lean muscle mass. Be conscious of calories, but not at the expensive of that sleek, toned look you want for those pictures.
2. Become a scale junkie! Give away your scale! Better still; let your fiance run over it (he'll love that). Constantly stepping on and off the scale is not a workout, but an added stressor" in your life. Remember, stress of any kind causes "Cortisol," the ancient "fight or flight" hormone, to be released in your body. Stress causes your body to store fat. So, stay positive, stress less... and please, ditch the scale!
3. Do Cardio & Forget Resistance Training. Brides-to-be are often resistant to resistance training. However, it can actually help you lose belly fat faster than simply doing cardio or dieting alone. A combination of pushing the weights around and cardio will not only burn more calories while you train, but also long after your workout is over.
4. Leave Fat & Carbs Out of Your Diet. First off, dietary fat doesn't pack residual fat on your thighs. However, consuming more calories than you burn does cause the body to store fat. If you take out the dietary fat from your menu plan, it will be very hard for you to feel satisfied after a meal... so you head back for "seconds." Balance your macronutrients, (protein, carbohydrates and fat) and you'll have energy and calories to burn for your next awesome workout.
Remember, carbohydrates are your body's first choice for energy. Depleting the glycogen stored in your muscles will make them flat and lifeless. Minimizing the starchy carbohydrates (rice, pasta, bread, cereals, etc.) and include more fruits and veggies will help you to sustain your energy as you slim that waistline!
5. Do the Same Workout Every Day! Remember how that Stairmaster did wonders for our thighs at first, but not so much lately? Well, our body has this nasty habit of adapting to our favorite workouts. Meaning, you've got to change things up... fool your body by throwing in a treadmill or Xbox game or two, or you'll end up burning fewer calories with the same amount of intensity and duration.
6. Don't Pamper Yourself! On the contrary, treat yourself to some Massage therapy, take a yoga class, replenish yourself with a spa treatment and most of all... get your beauty sleep! The last thing you want to do is look stressed out and worn out in those wedding pictures.
7. Limit water intake! And that doesn't mean replacing water with margaritas on Taco Tuesday. Believe it or not, you're practically parched the moment you wake up - especially if you did the Taco Tuesday thing. Anyway, get up and start drinking water. Water energizes your mind and body... and helps to handcuff your appetite. As a rule of thumb, drink half of your body weight in aqua ounces. So, if you weigh 120, drink 60 ounces of water. Sounds like a lot, and it is for most people, but you'll love the results.
8. Work Until You Drop. Many brides tackle workouts like Marine recruits during "Hell Week." Give your body a day off now and then to recover. If you don't, you will miss out on the best phase of training, "the results phase"! Simply put, this is the phase where inches drop and body parts lift.
9. Don't plan your meals! A bride has a lot on her plate when planning her wedding. Give some thought as to what you're having for dinner - perhaps prepare a few meals in advance - and this will make your life much easier, and alleviate even more stress.
10. No Wedding Morning Workout! Wrong! Start off your wedding day with a feel good morning workout! You're friends might think you're crazy, but the adrenaline boost will lower your stress levels on the biggest day of your life, and allow you'll enjoy every moment of it!
