MEMPHIS, TN, April 15, 2011
The physicians of Memphis Obstetrics and Gynecological Association, PC (MOGA) have announced the addition of on-site mammography and bone density scanning at their Wolfchase location.According to Robert Burns, CEO of the practice: "One of the ways that we set our practice apart from others is by offering services which normally require an off-site referral. By bringing these services under our roof, we provide an atmosphere in which our patients experience less inconvenience, and enjoy the comfort of being examined by staff members they have already come to know."
With the addition of these services comes radiology technician Lindsey Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is a graduate of Southwest Tennessee Community College, with an Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology. She comes to MOGA with two years of experience as a technician. She is recently married, and enjoys yard work and water skiing outside of the office.
As a strong proponent of mammograms, Johnson states: "I understand the fear that most women face when they hear the word 'mammogram.' It isn't known for being a pleasant experience. But most patients leave my exam room having been very surprised by the low level of discomfort that we were able to provide."
The office utilizes the Selenia LoRad system, which is the latest in digital mammography technology. It uses a Selenium-based direct capture method, which eliminates light diffusion and delivers higher-contrast images by reducing radiation scatter without increasing the dose. Women are encouraged to have one mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40. If results are normal, mammograms are normally discontinued until age 40, and then performed once a year.
Bone density (DEXA) scans are recommended for all women over the age of 65, and for younger post-menopausal women with one or more risk factors. Risk factors include family history, small frame size, elevated thyroid hormone, and low calcium intake.
The MOGA Wolfchase office is located at 7865 Educators Lane in suite 200. The building is immediately behind the Memphis Area Teachers Credit Union, south of Stage Road. The office can be reached by calling (901) 373-9221.
