MINNETONKA, MN, May 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) Nexen Group Inc. announces the Roller Pinion System, Universal Rack model. Nexen's Roller Pinion System (RPS)--also available in Premium Rack and Standard Rack models--delivers precise linear positioning with zero backlash for high-precision motion control applications. The Universal Rack model provides an ideal solution for customers that require the advanced features of the RPS system with thrust ratings up to 750 - 10500 N.
Differing from a traditional rack and pinion system, the RPS features a unique roller pinion/toothed rack combination. The pinion is comprised of bearing supported rollers that engage a unique tooth profile. Each tooth profile is precisely measured to ensure high positional accuracy and eliminate cumulative error. As a result, the Universal Rack model delivers high positional accuracy to 50 micrometers (0.002 in), and an innovative meshing action results in less than 5 micrometers (0.0002 in) of backlash.
The Universal Rack models feature durable alloy steel construction and or corrosive resistant stainless steel. Minimum periodic lubrication intervals are required to ensure maximum performance.
Like all RPS models, the Universal Rack installs in conjunction with a flange mount pinion and preloader. Racks are available in the standard 1 meter and 1/2 meter cut lengths or are able to be custom cut to certain lengths leaving no limit to travel distances. The RPS models are able to accommodate a wide range of application requirements. Nexen's Universal Rack outperforms traditional positioning systems in many applications including:
- Aerospace
- Machine Tool
- Automated assembly machine
- Gantry Systems
- Medical
- Glass cutting

Cell division abnormality contributes to inflammation in COPD
2011-05-16
ATS 2011, DENVER – Changes in the ability of lung cells to divide may play a role in initiating or prolonging lung tissue inflammation, a hallmark of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), according to a study conducted by researchers in France.
The results will be presented at the ATS 2011 International Conference in Denver.
"We found that lung tissue cells of patients with COPD had an impaired ability to divide, or had lost their ability to divide," said lead author Valerie Amsellem, MD, PhD, professor of medicine at the National Institute of Health and Medical ...

ATS 2011, DENVER – Continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, can increase alertness and even improve quality of life for sufferers of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), even if their symptoms are minimal, according to a study conducted by researchers in Europe. Patients enrolled in the study reported an improvement in daytime sleepiness within six months of beginning CPAP treatment.
The study will be presented at the ATS 2011 International Conference in Denver.

Gene expression changes in nasal cells may help identify lung cancer in earliest stages
2011-05-16
ATS 2011, DENVER –A simple, minimally-invasive technique using cells from the interior of the nose could help clinicians detect lung cancer in its earliest – and most treatable – stages, according to a study conducted by researchers in Boston.
The study will be presented at the ATS 2011 International Conference.
"Our data suggests that evaluating gene expression changes in nasal cells found in the interior surface of the nose may serve as a non-invasive approach for the early detection of lung cancer in smokers," said study author Christina Anderlind, MD, Instructor ...
