Computer Recycling Firm HTG Inc. Beats Out Larger Competitors to Help Downsize Hollywood Video

Information technology management company HTG Inc. has announced completion of the Hollywood Video liquidation project involving most of the non-DVD technology inventory pulled from its more than 600 retail locations nationwide.

2011-05-20
VANCOUVER, WA, May 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) This site decommissioning and computer recycling contract was a victory for HTG Inc, which beat out much larger players in the final bid.

"For us, the choice to partner with HTG was obvious," says Jeff Klemp, Senior Vice President at Hollywood Video. "While we knew that all of the finalists could adequately remove the equipment from our warehouses, HTG provided the greatest end-value and the process was efficient and painless." Adds HTG President Kermit Macaulay, "Having managed projects of similar scope, we were confident that we could make this headache-free for Hollywood Video."

Though HTG maintains a small full-time staff of about 25 people, it has working relationships with thousands of IT professionals across the country who work on a part-time basis. This business model enables them to remain nimble and to quickly scale their work force, depending on the needs of the job at hand. That agility served them well on the Hollywood Video project. Says Macaulay, "We were hired on the condition that we could be at the distribution center the next morning with three 40-foot semi-trailers, to immediately inventory and remove the product. When we showed up at six a. m. with our trucks, I realized that we were going to need an additional three 53-footers to get the job done." Despite facing a job whose scope had more than doubled overnight, the HTG team kept its word - even conducting the inventory and resale valuation on site, giving Hollywood Video a much-needed immediate payoff. Macaulay adds, "Not only did we hit that target, but we delivered payment same day."

Dismantling and recycling a company's IT systems can be an exceedingly complicated task. For one thing, secure hard drive destruction is key and the data must be eliminated to the satisfaction of the client. Environmental compliance within state and federal DOD regulatory guidelines is imperative. Finally, there is the task of computer recycling involving the reselling of the remaining hardware. HTG accomplishes this with industry-leading employee-purchase programs and by harvesting individual components from each system. Says Macaulay, "Other companies usually resell entire units, often overlooking the value of individual components. While this makes for a quick transition, the seller may end up missing out on as much as 60 percent of the hardware's resale value. By maximizing that return on their investment, we can reduce or even eliminate their decommissioning costs." By maximizing its resale programs and maintaining a scalable staff through IT outsourcing, HTG has been able to help various large businesses tackle sizable, complex IT management projects at competitive rates.

Launched in 1996, Vancouver, Washington-based HTG Inc. helps national corporations complete major, multi-location IT projects with amazing efficiency. Such projects include IT staffing, computer asset management, computer recycling, secure hard drive data destruction, distribution and logistics, national multi-site windows deployments, systems integration, site decommissioning and product procurement. With its flexible, scalable staff, HTG has revolutionized the way IT management gets done, saving large businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars and tens of thousands of man-hours.
