Laskin Energy Park Engages Golden Shovel for Online Marketing Effort

220-acre industrial park in Hoyt Lakes Minnesota leverages its power and business-friendly assets to energize business expansion and collaborates with Web solutions firm to bring that message online.

2011-06-13
HOYT LAKES, MN, June 13, 2011 (Press-News.org) Representatives of the Laskin Energy Park recently deployed a new marketing strategy to promote its strategic assets for business expansion, assets that include access to steam, power, and deionized water. Working with Little Falls-based Golden Shovel Agency, the Laskin team is able to prospect the latest technologies and trends in community development. These Web solutions are the heart of Golden Shovel's expertise in improving Laskin's online presence.

Developed through a partnership between Minnesota Power, the East Range Joint Powers Board, Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), and the City of Hoyt Lakes, Laskin Energy Park is positioned to offer businesses unprecedented amenities, infrastructure, and services at one location.

Nancy Norr, regional development manager for Minnesota Power, which operates the Laskin Energy Center within the park, says, "In addition to electric power, we can deliver steam and deionized water to businesses with this unique need. Steam is a safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective source of energy for large-scale industrial manufacturers that require substantial process heat. From this centralized location, steam can be piped into multiple facilities within the park."

"Deionized water is another asset we can provide industries that process chemicals and cannot have contaminants in their water," said Norr. "Deionized or distilled water has been treated to neutralize those contaminants."

Laskin Energy Park is located near where more than $5 billion in large scale industrial projects are either underway or planned over the next several years. Opportunities for businesses to supply these companies have never been greater.

And the setting is breathtaking. The environmentally-friendly park is surrounded by beautiful lakes and tree-lined fishing streams. In addition to the electric and thermal power capability of the park, expanding businesses can take advantage of low-cost natural gas, fiber optics, and proximity to rail.

Norr said, "We have an experienced team that is eager to put its creativity to work for expanding businesses looking for the right location. We can make available land in the park at a reasonable cost, but more importantly, can package financial incentives that will help businesses transition to new opportunities and manage their growth."

Family genetic research reveals the speed of human mutation

2011-06-13
This press release is available in French.MONTREAL, June 12, 2011 – A team of researchers have discovered that, on average, thirty mutations are transmitted from each parent to their child, revising previous estimations and revolutionizing the timescale we use to calculate the number of generations separating us from other species. Important monitoring of heart performance is omitted in two-thirds of high-risk surgical operations

2011-06-13
Amsterdam, The Netherlands: Only 35% of anaesthesiologists are carrying out a simple procedure during high-risk surgery that can make a significant impact on how well patients recover from their operations, according to new research presented today (Sunday 12 June) at the European Anaesthesiology Congress in Amsterdam. A survey of 463 randomly selected European and US anaesthesiologists found that although more than 95% of them knew that it was of major importance that enough oxygen reached all parts of the body during an operation and that this was determined by how ...

We are all mutants

2011-06-13
Each one of us receives approximately 60 new mutations in our genome from our parents. This striking value is reported in the first-ever direct measure of new mutations coming from mother and father in whole human genomes published today. For the first time, researchers have been able to answer the questions: how many new mutations does a child have and did most of them come from mum or dad? The researchers measured directly the numbers of mutations in two families, using whole genome sequences from the 1000 Genomes Project. The results also reveal that human genomes, ...

New study of storm generation could improve rainfall prediction in West Africa

2011-06-13
A new study of how storms are generated could improve rainfall prediction in dry regions of Africa, where drought and short growing seasons are common. A team of scientists from the UK, France and Australia used satellite observations of the Sahel region of West Africa to demonstrate that brief changes in soil moisture over areas of just tens of kilometres can affect storm generation. The results are published online in Nature Geoscience on 12 June 2011. The monsoon can arrive abruptly in the Sahel and the relative timing of planting and the starts of the wet season ...

Single GFP-expressing cell is basis of living laser device

2011-06-13
It sounds like something out of a comic book or a science fiction movie – a living laser – but that is exactly what two investigators at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital have developed. In a report that will appear in the journal Nature Photonics and is receiving advance online release, Wellman researchers Malte Gather, PhD, and Seok Hyun Yun, PhD, describe how a single cell genetically engineered to express green fluorescent protein (GFP) can be used to amplify the light particles called photons into nanosecond-long pulses of laser ...
