JK Harris Helps Pennsylvania Couples Save Nearly $30,000 With Offer In Compromise

Pennsylvania turns to JK Harris for help when IRS notice informs them they owe large tax liability to the IRS. JK Harris & Company helps them apply for an offer in compromise to help negotiate their tax debt down to a more affordable size.

2011-08-27
GOOSE CREEK, SC, August 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) Owing back taxes is a stressful event. It takes a toll on health, bank accounts and marriages. Luckily Randy and Ethel Fay Thieme of Titusville, Pennsylvania, sought help dealing with their back tax debt.

The Thiemes' tax problems started with not having enough taxes withheld from their business income. Not filing their federal tax returns on time contributed to the problem. They were uncertain of how to fix their tax problem when they turned to JK Harris & Company, the nation's largest tax representation firm.

According to the IRS, the Thiemes owed approximately $22,000 based on substitute returns the IRS filed for them. When the couple came to JK Harris, it was discovered they had missed filing some tax years as well for Mr. Thieme's sole proprietorship and they actually owed more than the IRS claimed.

"Once we filed their tax returns, the substitute returns filed by the IRS were dropped, but the Thiemes still owed back taxes," said Lauren Lindsay, Senior Account Manager on the Thiemes' case. "The clients were very easy to work with and Mrs. Thiemes worked closely with us to provide us all of the documents we need. She took charge of the situation and kept me in the loop with any concerns or questions she had."

The Thiemes were hit hard by current economic conditions and their expenses were greater than the income the business was bringing in. This made the couple excellent candidates for the IRS' offer in compromise program.

The IRS' offer in compromise program is designed to help taxpayers that do not and will not have in the foreseeable future, the income, assets or means to pay their tax liability in full.
The IRS accepted an offer in compromise from the Thiemes for $2,200.

"We are very pleased on how you guys handled our case," said Randy Thieme. "It took a lot of the stress out of our lives and marriage. Now I don't have to worry about the IRS...thank you very much."

Researchers find wide gap in immune responses of people exposed to the flu

2011-08-27
ANN ARBOR, Mich.---Why do some folks who take every precaution still get the flu, while others never even get the sniffles? It comes down to a person's immune system response to the flu virus, says Alfred Hero, professor at the University of Michigan College of Engineering. In one of the first known studies of its kind, Hero and colleagues from Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy, used genomics to begin to unravel what in our complex genomic data accounts for why some get sick while others don't. Breakthrough in genetics of fibroids

2011-08-27
Uterine leiomyomas, also called fibroids, cause a very significant burden to women's health. They are benign tumors that occur in 60% of women by the age of 45 years and cause symptoms such as abdominal pain and discomfort, and abnormal bleeding, in about half of the cases. Fibroids are also an important cause of infertility. These tumors are the most common medical reason for hysterectomy. Considering the clinical importance of fibroids, relatively little has been known about the mechanisms of tumorigenesis involved. A research team at the University of Helsinki, ...

Earth-bound asteroids come from stony asteroids, new studies confirm
2011-08-27
Researchers got their first up-close look at dust from the surface of a small, stony asteroid after the Hayabusa spacecraft scooped some up and brought it back to Earth. Analysis of these dust particles, detailed in a special issue of the journal Science this week, confirms a long-standing suspicion: that the most common meteorites found here on Earth, known as ordinary chondrites, are born from these stony, or S-type, asteroids. And since chondrites are among the most primitive objects in the solar system, the discovery also means that these asteroids have been recording ...
